The Ponnamma Kitchen has a web site which claims it is both a take away and restaurant - any one eaten in ?
Whether you are eating in or ordering a take away .......

Just had my first takeaway and it was fab-u-lous! Lovely people and lovely food. Love the way you can specify how hot you want your curry, I had a Malai Prawn Curry medium and it was perfect.
So good to have a curry with a unique and refreshing flavour.
I will deffo go back!

Good to hear food is top notch. They have done a great job cleaning up the building and round the back but a big but the front really doesn’t fit in with its surroundings very garish. You have lovely hanging baskets and flower planter just outside opposite the dragon with lovely baskets and decor. Even the Thai massage parlour not to over the top . Thought they would have tried to blend in more with their surroundings wonder what the councils think about it in a conservation area. Great to have new business in the village wish them well .

The website makes no claim to be a dine in restaurant? It is quite clearly stated “ takeaway” and menu looks really good.

Well the menu is at last available but it seems a bit pricey for Liphook.
Rice @ ÂŁ4.95 is OTT,as are most of their dishes.
It also lacks detail of and insufficient description of the spices used in their dishes and specials.
I think it's got the location wrong for those prices, maybe Haslemere or Godalming but has Liphook got this money.... time will tell.
Best of think you're going to need it.
I'm sticking to Spice Lounge never had a bad meal there, great menu and much more realistic pricing, plain rice ÂŁ3.25....loads of choice.. delivered too!

Joe
If you read the last paragraph on their website ' About Us ' you will clearly see it says ' Dine In '
Get it right
[editor]Can't see it myself. Maybe it has been removed. ponnammakitchen.com/about[/editor]

Editor - if you scroll down the Home Page to a section titled About Us... it says...
"Whether you’re ordering takeaway or dining in, we look forward to serving you and making your visit to Ponnamma’s Kitchen truly special!"
[editor]Oh yes - they need to sort that. [/editor]

Having spoken to the shop staff today, the service is currently only takeaway. The ground floor is occupied mainly by the shop & the top is presumably flats/storage so there is nowhere to "dine in". He did however indicate that in the future, they were looking at having tables out the front of the shop, like the Lazy Lizard did. Looks like the new ground floor premises, opposite the Green Dragon will be another hairdressers, judging by the mirrors being installed.

Thanks all ....
Was beginning to doubt my ability to read ......
Still, it's a pity it is not a restaurant - I remember the Chondona on the same site - basic but very very tasty and lovely staff.

Probably another so called “turkish barbers” establishment. I presume that is a different ownership anyway to the takeaway?

Well just added up . 10 takeaways, 7 eat in , that’s without the cinema. 6 hairdressers. 4 estate agents. Think I have them all but will stand corrected. Not bad for a small town .

Oldie 4 of those six are probably turkish barbers I think.

Love it Joe . No I think we still only have two Turkish barbershops but you never know overnight things change.

The hairdressers moving into the premises on London Road is one that is relocating from the Haslemere Road .

Gosh, do we really have 10 takeaways in Liphook?
I'm trying to think of them all
Fish and chips x 2
Chinese x 2
Ponamma
Indian
That's 6. What else?

I think “ little fish “could be calked a take away although i don't think they have any counter there where you can order it from . I think that the Green Dragon pub does take away thai food as well as dine in. The italian restarant on station rd i believe does take away food too.

Forgot little fish that makes 11 . Think there are three Chinese one at the station two at the top of Midhurst Road. Don’t forget the van in the lay-by . Good job we are all hungry.

Then we have Bordon who deliver to Liphook and surrounding areas.
My vote goes to the Spice Lounge every time!
Great to have so much to choose from.

- Aren't we all villagers? (1st Jul 2025 15:08:38)
I don't believe a copious number of take aways and convenience stores is in any way a metric to be proud of.
We're watching Liphook transition from a small Hampshire town in a semi-rural location to a generic mess of Turkish Barbers, Vape Stores, Off Licences and Convenience Stores.
It won't recover. It will be like Peckham High Street in a few years.

Re: Ponnamma Kitchen
- A hungry villager (1st Jul 2025 15:29:04)
But Villager, what exactly do you expect or want to occupy these premises?
High streets have been squeezed by obscene property prices and rents, councils desperate for business rates, and most people - tight for time with working - are shopping online for clothes, shoes.
Liphook doesn't have the population, or the parking, to sustain many types of businesses. Aided by some shocking town planning.
We all need to eat.
It's frustrating (and predictable) to see so many local curtain twitchers talk down current or new businesses, without offering feasible solutions of their own.
The talk of Peckham sounds a lot like racism to me.

We all welcome all new business but just hope that the new business blend in with the surroundings especially in the square. It’s not much to ask really to try and keep what we have left like a village square with so much history. It would also probably make the business more attractive to the community. Such a shame that history is discarded without a care . I am so pleased that the dragon pub has tried to keep its premises like it used to be with lovey flower front and rear even though it’s a Thai business. Other places seem to achieve it perhaps they have a stronger council.

@ A hungry villager - you’ve contributed nothing to this thread (unless you're using several names?), and now you're throwing around 'racism' over a street comparison?
This is straightforward urban critique. Throwing that accusation around doesn’t make you right — it just exposes how desperate you are to derail the conversation.
