WHY ?
- Paul Robinson (22nd Jun 2025  10:07:16)

Can anyone explain why it was necessary to install three way traffic lights at the junction of Tower Road and London Road. Half London Road has been fenced and coned off since Friday causing traffic to be backed up from the square going out of the village. The consequent tailback coming up the London Road has been tailing back down the slip road and onto the A 3!

But here's the rub . . . not a stroke of work has been done since the lights went up!

Is it me?

Paul, have you ever worked outside in the temperatures we've had over the past few days? I have and it's no joke. All very well for these air conditioned desk jockeys to moan.

Having walked pass the area, there is indeed a small hole/void with adjacent tarmac also cracking. It is right next to a flowing foul/storm manhole, so probably best the road has the subsequent traffic lights, to avoid an HGV causing an additional sinkhole to form and the chaos from the road being closed for weeks.

Yes, I do so agree with 'D' (who he?)

Hauling those lights, cones and barriers across the London Road on Friday in scorching heat must have been a trial. But they must have thought it was all worth while if the work was about to have commenced.

I came from the bypass on Saturday and was stuck in a long line of cars that nearly went back to the A3. Movement was very slow and some idiots were beeping horns (like that would make a difference) and getting very impatient. When I got closer it became obvious that the timing was set wrong as three cars were getting through before they changed again.

Seems pretty unanimous then, motion to permanently ban the building of anything going forward is approved

You all seem to forget there is no coordination between the different sections of Hampshire Highways. Remember when they did the same in the square lights everywhere no work done ever lights removed yes great coordination not my job to see if we are doing it correctly we only put the lights up doesn’t matter if there is going to be any work done we just bugger off . Someone somewhere needs a kick up the bum .

Hot or cold, indoors or out, air conditioned or not, if you don't like your job don't do it. But if you're taking money for doing something, do it properly and with at least some pride.

Just a thought, any of you moaners actually contacted Hampshire Highways to advise of the uncoordinated light timings as the queuing onto the # slip road.
I haven’t been caught up in it so don't know the true situation but if no one has told them how will they know?

Surely the best course of action is to approach the people actually doing the job and express your concerns directly. But I'm sure, as with the recent debacle over vehicles parked opposite the back entrance to the junior school, not one person other than myself on this website has the balls to do that.

Whine on.
