TV no signal
- Mary W (15th Feb 2012 - 22:21:04)

I understood that, if you were able to receive several programmes, the digital changeover would not affect reception. My Sky is OK, but I have no reception on my freeview, which is built in to my TV set. I don't use the freeview much, unless Sky if down for any reason.

Is anyone else having problems? Any suggestions for someone local who might have a look if it is something simple?

If your aerial points north west to Hannington, you must have retuned your TV last week and again next week. If you did not retune, check the TV handbook and follow the retune procedure. If you point to Midhurst check your aerial is still on the roof. LOL

Didn't quite understand Andrew's post...but on the subject of Freeview boxes...

As I posted on another thread, although we re-tuned our TV with built-in freeview quite correctly, we were unable to receive watchable BBC channels. So we bought a separate freeview box and connected it to our old 'fat' TV and now we receive all channels perfectly.

Having done a google search of other areas who were switched to digital last year, it appears that this is a problem experienced by many people and not just us and especially with BBC channels...very annoying as our flat screen TV is only 2 years old!!

I've no idea if anybody has a solution...

Hi

If there is an option to totally reset the TV you should try that first. Then do a re-tune - as if the TV was brand new again.

Hi Alan,

Yes...we did try that option a couple of times, but it still didn't work...

We had a problem with one of our TV's with an inbuilt Freeview tuner a couple of years ago. The problem was caused by the tuner not having enough capacity for all the channels (only 99) and as the BBC ones are at the end of the spectrum they were being missed/corrupted. The fix was a free software upgrade from the manufacture (Panasonic) to give over 100 channels and all has worked fine since.
It took some trawling around on Google to find it out but once we had Panasonic were very good and sent the Memory card straight out with all the instructions and a freepost envelope to send it back.

I wonder if that is the answer - mine is a Panasonic modernish flat screen with inbuilt freeview. It says No signal, but I am inclined to think it is connected with the digital switchover.

Thank you for your post Darren...I think you've hit the nail on the head!!

This explains why, on my own trawl through the net to try and find an answer, I came across so many posts from people saying their freeview box didn't have enough 'capacity'. I didn't quite understand what they meant, but I can now see they were saying the amount of channels they could receive was limited.

I'm sure there's zero chance of us getting a new memory card for our TV. My husband bought it on the net and we've never heard of the name before...so goodness knows who manufactures it or where...probably made by yurt dwellers in Outer Mongolia LOL

I do think this problem should have been pointed out, by the powers that be, before all this digitalisation took place!!!

Missing freeview channels?
Try this, I have found it works with some TVs.
First unplug the TV aerial, then re-tune, it won't find any channels & will remove all stored channels.
Now plug the TV aerial back in & retune again, this should restore the missing channels.
Worth a try.

How do you re-tune?

Does anyone know a good technician who would come and check my tv out? I am sure it's the changeover because it just says 'No signal'.
