THANK YOU
- Liphook in Bloom (14th Apr 2025  08:28:17)

Thank you to all those people who turned out on Sunday morning to help Liphook in Bloom with the Litter Pick. There was a great turn out and a huge amount of litter was cleared.

The village has had a good spring clean!

- C (14th Apr 2025  09:15:33)

A huge thank you to those who litter picked at the weekend. The village is looking beautiful! Sorry I was away at the weekend and not able to help this time but I shall continue doing regular litter picks myself.

To say thank you, I'd like to make a donation to LIB. Is anyone able to advise how to do this? Thank you.

Thank LIB for their good work making our village a more pleasant place to be in.

The flowers schemes are lovely, and understandably they bring the enthusiasm for the volunteers. However, is there a more balanced approach between lovely bedding flowers and a more general upkeep of our ornamental areas? We see lovely flower beds next to neglected, littered, dilapidated, vandalized areas.

I appreciate LIB is about flowers in very well defined areas, and they're up against Council and private ownerships, but still...

Just a thought, enlighten us?

Thank you for your kind comments.

LIB have ‘permission to cultivate’ from HCC and our Parish Council for specific areas and beds in the village. The area surrounding these beds is not under our control but we often make representations to the appropriate authorities to try and get weeds removed, seats repaired and damaged street furniture replaced.

If you could contact us by email at liphookinbloom@gmail.com and mention the specific, neglected, littered, dilapidated, vandalized areas to which you refer we will endeavour to see what we can get done about them.

You might have noticed that the working party on Sunday removed a lot of weeds around the beds outside of Number One and around the way into the Midhurst road carpark.

Bush just wondering do you volunteer to help with keeping liphook looking good. Lib do a fantastic job but they have only so much time and resources and they are not just about flowers they clean up all round and organise litter picking. Could you inform this site where the derelict and un tidy places are then perhaps the local inhabitants could do something about it .

Re: THANK YOU
- C (17th Aug 2025  09:39:32)

I see it as everyone’s job to keep our beautiful village looking clean and tidy. I tend to take a litter grabber out with me when I walk to pick up any litter I see. Of course not saying everyone should do that, it’s my choice. But certainly not littering is a good place to start! And of course thanks to LIB for all their efforts in making Liphook look lovely!

- Local (18th Aug 2025  15:43:47)

Well Bush you still haven’t enlightened us as to where the ornamental areas are or the derelict vandalised areas are been looking around but only can see lovely flowers and a reasonable clean village compared to other places. The hanging baskets are stunning this year.

- Resident (19th Aug 2025  14:02:22)

Yes Bush you have been asked to identify areas so that residents perhaps could do something about it please respond. I also have looked around but in vain.

Re: THANK YOU
- Local (19th Aug 2025  16:15:13)

Yes thanks for all the flowerbeds which looks nice, I would take issue with this still being a village though, it's some sort of town without the status or maybe a spreading dormitory town.

The flowerbeds take us so far but we mustn't lose sight of what's really needed, such as better road infrastructure, more trains and buses, a bypass, more employment, more affordable housing to bring in younger folk, this is a town and we start thinking that way, then maybe when we deal with all the faceless bureaucrats they'll take us more seriously and stop thinking that all we are is a few houses surrounded by loads of vacant farmland ripe for new housing estates, and a park bench which needs replacing.

Like the flowerbeds though.

Second local you should have defined your post with something to distinguish yourself. Your post was ok but the thread was about libs work around the village town yes it’s been a town for many years but still has that lovely village feeling. It was Bush’s post about neglected and vandalised areas next to flowerbeds which she hasn’t enlightened us about that is interesting as it seems no one can identify where. As for all the other stuff roads infrastructure etc that’s been going on for years and years the councils have been told so many times you could write a book about it . They just don’t want to make the developers stump up for infrastructure they run scared when a developer puts in a plan they just wave it through. The community doesn’t stand a chance. Back to LIB I think they do a magnificent job as there are so few of them that actually run it .

Re: THANK YOU
- Paul Robinson (19th Aug 2025  19:14:46)

There are several advantage both practical and symbolic that can come with a village gaining town status. It’s not just about a name change; it can reflect and enable a shift in identity, governance, and opportunity. Here’s a breakdown. Towns often have more influence in local decision-making, with expanded powers for their councils. Improved funding access: Town status can open doors to regional or national grants, especially for infrastructure, heritage, or tourism projects. Stronger representation: A town may carry more weight in county-level discussions, helping advocate for local needs. Attracting investment: Businesses and developers may be more inclined to invest in a “town” than a “village,” perceiving it as more dynamic or better resourced. Town status can enhance visibility, especially if paired with historical or cultural branding. Infrastructure upgrades: With town status often comes improved transport links, public services, and amenities. Paul Robinson

Think on, is this what you want ?

Bush still quiet thinking he - she might just be stirring it up for some hidden agenda. My massive thanks to LIB for your efforts just think what the village/ town would look like without any flowers and baskets - awful.
