wedding reception venue
- M (18th Feb 2006 - 19:41:51)
I am getting married abroad later this year, and due to a number of relatives and friends not being able to travel, I am looking to have a party when we get back in the Liphook area. I no longer live locally, so am looking for some advice and experiences of where in the area would be a good venue without breaking the bank (the wedding is doing that!) We would need a room for 60, can cater (ie buffet not sit down), has ideally got a bar etc.
Any advice would be much appreciated

M -
There are lots of venues that could accommodate your wedding.
Depends how much you want to spend.
I'd start at the Millennium Centre (01428 723889), where there's the main hall, plus the Canada Room for something smaller. You can either cater yourself, use the in-house caterer or bring in your own catering company.
Then, of the local pubs, there's the Black Fox. They have their own, attached, Function room. (see advert panel and link on this page) (01428 723218).
Hotels: you have a choice of Old Thorns (several suites), The Georgian in Haslemere High Street, Lythe Hill (just outside Haslemere).
And that's just to start. I'm sure there are a few recent brides on this site who can offer other ideas.
Good luck!

Not sure what your budget is be we had our do last year at the Old Thorns. It's a golf club just outside Liphook.
Every one had a wonderful time and said what a great venue it was. The staff couldn't have been better and I would recommend it.

We had our wedding and reception at Old Thorns two years ago. We had a sit down meal and then buffet and disco in the evening. Everything was done brilliantly and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
I know another email was added with numerous suggestions but it's nicer if you can have somewhere recommended by someone who has actually used the venue.

I can personally recommend Langrish House.
It has character, style and superb surroundings. The staff are helpful and the food wonderful. We got married there last summer and it really was exactly what we wanted.
They don't just do civil ceremonies they also do stand alone receptions. You could do much worse!

M,
dont rule out the Bohunt school multi purpose hall - it
can scrub up very nicely. Go along on the 25th March at around 4pm and ask for David who will show you what a fantastic event can be held there.
Also, the Church Centre is a very good venue for stand alone parties - it has a newly fitted kitchen!

Another vote for Bohunt's Multi purpose Hall.
I've done tons of events in there and it really does live up to it's name. "Multi Purpose"
I would also recommend going in for a nosey on Prom Day. It looks fantastic. (I've also heard the foods not too shabby either!!!)
