Digital Changeover Hannington Transmitter
- Jaybee (8th Feb 2012 - 09:00:36)

It would appear that the change over date has been brought forward.
I have had to re--tune our sets this morning. Re-tune successful, picture quality improved

8th Feb was correct. I believe we have a second retune to do on the 22nd February 2012 as well.

Wednesday 8th February 2012
BBC TWO analogue C45 closes. Multiplex BBCA starts on C45. Multiplex 1 C50 closes.

Wednesday 22nd February 2012
BBC One analogue C39 closes. ITV-1 analogue C42 closes. Channel 4 analogue C66 closes. Channel 5 analogue C35 closes. Multiplex 2 C43 closes. Multiplex A C40 closes. Multiplex B C46 closes. Multiplex C C44 closes. Multiplex D C41 closes.

Freeview power increases
Multiplex SDN starts on C41. Multiplex ArqA starts on C44. Multiplex ArqB starts on C47. Multiplex D3+4 starts on C42. Multiplex Freeview HD (BBCB) starts on C39.

So in English for those who have no idea of what you are talking about Editor!!

If we already watch Digital TV do we need to re-scan to get the improved signals?

For those using the Hannington transmitter (aerials pointing North West) you need to retune today and again on the 22nd Feb to keep all the channels.

If you are using the Midhurst transmitter (aerials pointing South East) then the retune dates are 29th February and 14th March 2012.

You need to be using the digital signal (for example a Freeview set top box) by the 8th Feb (Hannington) or 29th Feb (Midhurst) to continue to receive TV broadcasts

It seems some of you do not read the message that comes up on your tv telling you what and when to retune
A handbook was sent out some time ago what more info do you need
It even tells you the teletext page to go to and to follow the instructions there.

And there still won't be anything on TV! :)

We've followed the instructions on re-tuning given in the guide we were all sent to the letter...but we're having a problem receiving BBC1 which has bad reception and even more with BBC2 which is unwatchable...the sound comes and goes and the picture constantly breaks up.

Anyone else having this problem or can offer advice??

Hi

This can be caused by your receiver picking up a weak signal from another transmitter.

To overcome this you can usually use a manual tune for each of the Hannington MUXs (digital channels).

So reset the box and try manually.

Digital Switchover Project
- Helen Freeston (19th Jan 2012 10:51:08)

Hello,

I work for Community First East Hampshire and am helping the BBC Digital Switchover Project, aiming to find those people in our communities who aren’t ready for the TV switch over in February and March 2012.

The Digital Switchover Help Scheme is looking for Community Supporters who can help find those people who may still require assistance, reaching older isolated/vulnerable individuals within the community, ensuring that no-one is left with a blank screen after the switchover.

If you would be interested in helping please contact me on 01730 710017 or email helen.freeston@cfeh.org.uk

best wishes

Paul Robinson

Television viewers in parts of Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Surrey have had their analogue signal switched off.

The Hannington transmitter has switched to digital which means people with analogue TVs have lost their channels.

Those with digital equipment will have to re-tune their boxes. A message will appear on the screen explaining how to receive the new digital channels.

Anyone with problems can contact the Digital UK helpline on 08456 50 50 50.

I retuned the TV in the kitchen this evening and all channels then worked fine.

For the TV through which we get digital via the BT Vision box BBC1+2 were OK but not ITV1. The ITV1 picture kept breaking up and was unwatchable. I tried several retunes but to no avail.

If I manually retuned the TV in the kitchen and selected not the strongest signal for ITV1 I could reproduce the same problem that I had with the BT Vision box so I concluded that ITV1 on the BT Vision Box was not coming from Hannington even though BBC1+2 appeared to be.

The BT Vision box has no option to manually retune so I can’t tell it which transmitter to look to. Eventually I found ITV1 on channel 807. So if you are having issues with ITV reception look in the 800+ channel range. I assume this will resolve when the Midhurst transmitter is upgraded so mid March if I retune ITV should return to channel 3.
