Form a fun club to eat and drink locally?
- paul (6th Feb 2012 - 01:18:18)
Hi,
Are there any good places to wine and dine around the Liphook area?
Would it be a good a idea to start a Liphook residents fun dining club?
We could have lunch and or dinner events, meet each other, and get good prices as a group.
Do you have a fun name for our local club?
This would support the area for places, and local growers of produce for now and the future.
A chance for new friends and an enjoyable time.
Any ideas?

There's a group of Fathers from Liphook who come in to eat at the Gurkha Chautari. We are always pleased to serve them and so far they have enjoyed themselves.I think they visit different establishments every time.
Do contact me if you form a group and want a "deal".
Thank you.
Sudha.

Might I suggest you visit the post "Local Gastro Pubs" started on 30 January.
I feel you will be inviting headaches for yourself especially if you invite "Andy" who appears to see himself as the local "Good Food Guide".

Would you mind me asking the age group you are trying to get together for this Club?
Besides just going out for lunch or dinner would you be organising other events etc.... it is a good idea to meet new people and make new friends, specially if you live away from place of work, work from home or are new to the area.
Mind you, there are plenty of clubs and groups in the area for different interests..look up the Clubs and Societies Section of this website.
There is a Liphook Lunch Club as well. Why not check them out?
Good luck with this.

Could be a good idea, but I have been out in groups before with people who quibble at the end at the bill, for example, I know of people who go to a pub or restaurant and will say I only want tap water and order also the cheapest thing on the menu, then if someone else has more expensive food/drink will not want to share in the final bill.
At the other extreme there is always someone ordering 3 times as much drink as everyone else, and expecting the bill to be shared. It can sometimes be difficult to ask a restaurant for separate bills for more than 4 people at the same table.
If these things can be resolved it can work, and as someone above has said you do not want extra critical people there, they can spoil it if the chips are not triple cooked !

I wouldn't expect any "fun" either judging by many of the people in this and the "Gastro Pubs" thread. Expect anyone who says anything of remote interest to have their words spun and either deliberately or ignorantly misinterpreted. Then, they'll have assumptions made about them and be generally portrayed in a negative, slightly unpleasant manner by clearly bored people hiding behind their keyboards with nothing better to do. Once this stage is reached (any debate of any value around the subject in question having been lost a long time ago), should you be so impertinent as to protest at this treatment in a response such as this, you'll either be accused of being childish and throwing your toys out of the pram or not having a sense of humour. It's how this site works. If that's your idea of fun you'll love it.

Speaking of ignorantly misinterpreting - it's not the site that you are accusing of twisting things and moving a way from the debated topics, its the people that use it!!!!
I think this web site is great and the editor does a fantastic job!

Chrissy - Speaking of ignorantly misinterpreting - that's precisely what you have done yourself. Doh!

Hi there,
have you tried number 26, now Daisy's tea rooms?
I had a party there about a week few friends and I had a 3 course meal of our choice which was absolutely delicious. We then had music and drinks all night, it was truly a fantastic evening. Would really recommend it. I know the room hire is free, prices are really reasonable and you can bring your own wine with no cork-age fee. why not give them a call and it would be supporting a local business!

I do agree that Daisy\'s is a real gem to have in Liphook. Their lunches are delicious as are the cakes!!! The atmosphere is very friendly. A really good place for a meet-up with friends or just a cup of coffee.
