Best 6/7 seater car?
- Jay W (22nd Jan 2012 - 18:02:56)

I'm sure many of you own or have travelled in a 6-7 seater people carrier.

Can you let me know which you have found to be the best? I need to be able to use the 6th seat for an adult and hope to also have room for luggage. Sadly can't afford a new vehicle and will be looking at second hand.

I've heard that the Vauxhall Zafira is only good for children in the back but does anyone have any other suggestions for a family on a budget?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi

My Zafira has been brilliant for fitting in extra people. I've travelled with 6 adults or more, admittedly not for long journeys, and found it to be comfortable and economical. In addition it's really easy to adjust the seating to all permutations. Best of luck!

What Beth says is true - the Zafira is a very good car. Mine has been totally reliable over 75000 miles.

It's roomy and comfortable and serves as a big estate car with the rear seats folded.

However, there is one disadvantage that you need to bear in mind (and this probably applies to all MPVs); If you have six passengers they will have to carry their luggage on their laps!

Seems like I may have done the Zafira an injustice?! It was my childminder who didn't rate it with regard to the rear seats.

I think we are going to have a hard job replacing our old Nissan Serena with her sliding doors and plenty of room for 6 with luggage (7th seat folded back) and even managing a luggage box on the roof.

Anyone had experience of Ford Galaxy or VW Sharan?

Hi

You will find it difficult to find a smaller MPV to fit adults in the rear seats. The Renault Grand Scenic you can have six people with either 2 in the middle and 2 in the back folding or removing the extra seat or 3 in the middle and only pulling up one rear seat giving you luggage space but only would buy the diesel version as fuel economy and performance is poor on the petrol. But sadly the extra 2 seats will struggle for taller adults. For a true seven seater for adults you need need to go for Ford Galaxy size. I recently went in a Hyundai Trajet and sat in the extra rear seats. It was supurb but again you need diesel. Hope you have some success. PS if your on a budget dont go for the Renault Espace although a fantastic MPV it eats money.

Hi I had from new a 2004 Cirtoen C8 2.2HDI people carrier. It was an excellant car. Electric sliding doors three zone climate control each seat was independant from each other with numerous configurations. It was quite a High spec car with too much to list but from the lower end of the range. I had it for about four years without any problems. I Used it for about 75k miles and sold it locally. I still see the car around and looks as good as the day I sold it.

Most people carriers I've experienced don't have too much luggage area ifyou are not prepared to sacrifice a seat or two though. good luck!
