Last Wednesday (22nd February), Liphook U3A flung open the doors of the Millennium Centre to enable local retired people to “Pop-In” and find out what U3A (University of the Third Age) is all about. The many visitors who ventured through those open doors had an opportunity to speak with members and
leaders of many of the branch’s various activity groups.

There was a constant buzz of conversation all afternoon as visitors learned of the different things going on at Liphook U3A. Such as Antiques & Collectables, Archaeology, Book Circles, Boules, Chess, Computer Club, Creative Writing, Family History, Local History, Mini Bus Outings, Photography, Science & Technology, Strollers, Theatre Club, Walking, Wine
Appreciation and many more. Free refreshments were served throughout the afternoon, with tea, coffee and home made cakes. These proved to be very popular and the dishwasher was kept in almost constant use!

In addition to the activity groups, main monthly meetings feature a speaker covering a particular subject for about an hour, followed by an opportunity for questions and answers. This is followed by refreshments and a chance to socialise. These monthly meetings are held on the 1st Monday of the month (except July and August) or the 2nd Monday when the first is a Bank Holiday, commencing at 2.00 p.m. in the Millennium Hall. On 5th March our speaker will be Matthew Jackson on the Hidden Wonders of Korea.

The aim of U3A is to offer life long learning, personal development, fresh opportunities and new friendships. It is hoped that all these can be found within Liphook U3A where we have a diverse range of activities.

Many people attended this annual “Pop-In” event, with over 20 joining straight away. If you were unable to get along and would like more information, please visit our website www.liphooku3a.org.uk or contact our Chairman, Bob
Robinson on 01248 723171.

Do you have to be a 'retired' person?
