Liphook Bordon Road at Lindford
- Nick (15th Dec 2011 - 17:24:31)
Be advised that there are 2 sets of humps in Lindford between the small roundabout and the village shop
they are not small ones either - speed over them about 10-15mph if you dont want to damage your car (by all means try 30 )

they are called traffic calming, they wreck your car keeping the garages in work.
Hcc are cutting back on spending so they say but seem to be wasting more money on every project going. I would not be surprised if the bill in lindford was up to £500k for this last effort. A gang of 10 workers for 22 weeks labour, you do the sums and then materials on top.
Firgrove road whitehill another example for some kerbing works 10 weeks, assured that it will open at 4pm everyday, oh no got it wrong again shut it completely instead.

If you're travelling from Liphook towards Bordon the first new hump is particularly precarious because of it's width. I would not be surprised if some cars end up grounded on it. Be really careful

I was under the impression that ramps and similar traffic calming had to be appropriately marked/signed, eg with white triangles. Perhaps someone who knows more about this can advise?

The humps have signs either side (on both) clearly saying 'RAMP' . I live in Lindford and am glad that traffic calming is being put in.

Theres putting bumps in that are a decent size to slow traffic down but also not damage the car.... I have done 40,000 in a year and have done bumps down the lindford road at 10mph and still hear a scrap etc from the underside of my car... the limit is 30mph and I do 10mph.... I am happy they have put the bumps in as people do speed down that road but surley someone in East Hants council who actually lives in the area would say \"hang on these are too tall!\"
Do we not have common sense anymore??? the motorist is being hit with more and more costs, now we have to pay more for damage to the cars/vans etc that is made becuase of too high bumps

With the pinch points now going in, the traffic which is huge volume will be at a stand still that is what traffic calming is all about, progress by some jobsworth in his heated air con office.

these speed bumps or mountains are a joke, for about 7 days after they were finished there was no new road markings and i belive there are still no permanent signs to warn motorist about the speed bumps.
i have to slow down to under ten miles an hour to get my small car over the bumps.

Now Linford has traffic calming with these bumps why not Headley rd, Portsmouth rd ,Haslmere rd. Lets have congestion worse than it is all ready, A lot of drivers do not take any notice of the speed limit on these roads , they thinks signs are for ornemantal purposes only so pehaps a hump in the road will make them think about their speed.

just done a bit of research on internet and there is a report out that motorcycle accidents are increased thru the use of speed humps. Also co2 emmissions have gone up between 50 to 60% because of them.Lindford now has about 20 of these with 8 in chase rd alone so what with these and the sewerage works no wonder we cant breathe.Cant wait for the extra 5000 eco town flushes to come our way.

also they do not need approval from the dept of transport so for little cost they can put them up for a little bit more than signage

Went over today as a passenger and they are very very high.
I also did not see any road markings or anything indicating a new road layout.
I have to say that living on a very dangerous junction where death and serious injury have happened, I am a bit jealous that Lindford can get so much to slow the traffic down but Passfield can't really get anything.
[Although I would not advocate humps like that in any place. I imagine there are going to be a lot of ruin suspension claims!]

To mitigate over-large speed humps, use a 4x4 or if possible a heavy car with big wheels. Both will ride over the bumps better than most smaller cars with their lighter and smaller wheels. Plus the suspension tends to be tougher for the weight.
