- Ian Brice (15th Dec 2011 - 14:49:07)

My wife and I have both recieved an Email from BT internet,
SUBJECT - Account Verification/BT Warning
FROM - BT account service (alastair. scott)
and BT internet Mail (sarah.hubbard)
TO - blank
DATE Monday 5 Dec 2011 19.43 and another Wed 14 Dec 10.55

If you click on 'show images' you get up the BT Logo (all looks OK)
The message is

'We apologize for the inconvenience that this request may cause but as stated earlier, the jams we're experiencing is due to excessive mails which are unused. This verification further proves the validity of your BTinternetaccount. Please fill in the required information below after clicking the reply button.(don't do it)

User ID
Current Password
Occupation
Date of Birth
Country of Residence

After receiving the information requested you will be able to continue using your BTinternet mail without hitches. Please do bear in mind that we reserve the right to close thisBTinternetaccount if this request isn't granted on time.

END END END

My comment

I have taken advice on this and am told this is deffinatly a SCAM, do not give them any information or try to contact them by email, put this email straight into the trash folder. There is no way BT would ever request such information. The spelling and punctuation errors are exactly as received.

Hope this is helpfull
Regards Ian

I am now getting at least two of these dire warnings per day allegedly from BT which has prompted me to consult the official BT web site.

bt.custhelp.com/...

They state that any e-mail purporting to come from them asking for passwords etc or threatening the closure of their service is a scam or 'phishing'

They do not however say what they intend to do about it.

Seasons Greetings

I also received several of these phishing messages a couple of weeks ago, and they looked very authentic. I tried to let BT know about them but found the process so frustrating I gave up with them. A call centre in India and so many questions to answer including many irrelevant to the point. As we were away at the time and I did not have my account number with me to give to the 'voice' I gave up.
This is particulary annoying as BT is our Internet provider.
