Carol Singing
- Anne (5th Dec 2011 - 14:19:29)

Hi all, not sure if I've missed a thread but does anyone know if the carol singing outside of the Anchor is going ahead this year. I went last year for the first time and loved it, and intend taking my humbug (sorry, I mean husband) with me this year to get into the spirit of things.

It is listed in the events section -

Monday, 19th December 7.00 PM Come and join in the Carol Singing around the Royal Anchor Tree in the Square. Father Christmas will lead the Carols to the accompaniement of members of Haslemere Town Band. Soup, mince pies, chestnuts and mulled wine will be available.

Looking forward to the singing...and a warming drink at the pub obviously.
I've just downloaded the lyrics from the page on the site, interesting spelling of the first NOEL. :)

I'm going to start practicing now. Sling those bells?

Susie,

I was also intrigued by the spelling of 'Nowell' and looked it up...apparently it's the old English spelling and the French 'Noel' was first used in the American version of the song.

There's also a Cornish version that goes 'O Well...O Well' ...probably written by someone fond of the 'funny' cigarettes they smoke in the West Country lol

Ah, I've learnt something new today, thank you.

I shall delight in telling my know-it-all husband who found it so funny in the first place.

As always there is good news and bad news.
The bad news is that for many years the Fat Boys have dispensed the mulled wine with generousity and lots of Bon Homie unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control (Jobs!) we will probably not be able to attend this year.

FEAR NOT we have appointed to Fat Boy Floozies to cover for us!
They will be found next to the hot chestnuts as usual and will do their very best to continue the Fat Boy tradition.
We are planning our comeback for next year

Cheers
