I was just wondering what the local opinion was of the news that there will be an Asda in Whitehill/Bordon?

I think its a great idea. Would save a journey to Waterlooville!

Well there is news of it in the Herald :
"DESPITE hearing a warning that it could result in the closure of shops at Bordon’s Forest Shopping Centre, Whitehill Town Council planners have voted in favour of having an Asda supermarket in the town.
They voted four to one not to object to the Viking Park plan, which will ultimately be decided by East Hampshire District Council planners."
For full story, see this week's Bordon Herald.
I think this is the land behind the Jet Garage but I'm not sure, which puts it very close to the Tesco.
| | Yes, Viking Park is where the 'Two for One' restaurant is. |

I like the idea, that space has sat empty for a very long time and this will give a boost to local employment.
Plus...healthy competition to Tesco and Sainsburys.
You will still need to go the the Forest Centre to get to the library, the cafe and the post office. Considering the shops in the Forest Centre already trade happily along side the CO-OP, Lidl and Wilkinsons, I do not think it will have that much impact.

Not sure if this has been pointed out before but there is a (promotional) website by Asda of the proposals.
www.asdawhitehillandbordon.co.uk
How will this fit in with the eco-town (if we are optimists)?

Apparently they are going to recycle the "grey" water that condenses on the refridgeration equipment (although they did not say what they would use it for).
Whew, planet saved.
