HGV lorries parked on public highway
- Judy (29th Nov 2011 - 00:21:37)

I had a near miss colision tonight with a row of lorries parked on a dark road. I was heading to forest mere when my sat nav sent me down longmoor road griggs green, i was driving on dipped headlights as a car was heading towards me on the other side of the road. at the last moment, i hit the brakes stopping inches from the rear of a row of parked lorries. Is this correct practice to park unattended HGV lorries on the highway at night?

I did exactly the same the other night. I had been blinded by the headlights of huge tankers parked up dealing with some kind of emergency on the Longmoor Road and nearly ran into a line of heavy lorries parked with no lights. If there are any issues regarding highway safety they can be channelled through the LPC who have a councillor with a responsibility in that field. He or she can take it forward to Hampshire Highways if they think there are issues. My letter is on its way!

Is this the old section of the Longmoor Road past Bircholt Road because there's been tankers up there (MTS I think) 24/7 and I've been wondering whats been going on! We have a real problem down this section of the road with skip lorrys that are overloaded and spilling their loads on the road at the junction when they turn in a quite a speed, the only thing that's supposed to be holding the load in place is a thin hair net type thing! All the residents down here regularly get punctures because they've run over pieces of wood with nails poking out have been shed from their overload skips!

I am very interested to read about this affair. I am a retired transport manager of 30 years i worked for a blue chip logistics company any way i desided to take a look for my self this evening after dark, what i discovered is a situation that is not only an offence under the terms of an operators licence but a real hazzard! Under the terms of an o licence all hgv \'s are to be garaged at night inside of the operating centre not on the highway! the only time it can happen is on along haul ie over night stop.
What i discovered was four filthy unkempt hgv,s parked on a
unlit country road .I will be reporting this matter to the traffic commissioner. This makes me so angry, haulage is a cut throat affair at the best of times its got to be a level field.Cowboys like this get the industry a bad name.

There is also the option to put in a complaint via the Hampshire Highways website:
