Community Laundry Service of Liphook
- Katy Clarke (21st Nov 2011 - 21:58:13)

Just to follow on from previous postings and to update everyone I am pleased to say that a new committee has been formed to take over the laundry, next to The Peak Centre, currently run by Age Concern.

Age Concern decided not to renew their lease when it expires in December. Whilst provision was made to use the laundry in Station Road many locals felt it would be a sad day if the laundry were to close.

As such a new charity account has been set up and we have already raised over £2500 since 31st October. This means we are able to pay the rent for at least a year and purchase some new equipment. We need to replace the wasing machine and dryer as they are 20+ years old so need to raise an additional £3774.

Many local residents, businesses and charities have already been very generous but if anyone else can offer financial help, however small, it would be really appreciated and will benefit local elderly and disabled people of Liphook and the surrounding area. Please pop in to A3 sports or contact me via the editor if you are able to help.

We have an enthusiastic committee who are determined to keep the laundry running so please help us support the elderly of the village. We take over on 17th December so please make our Christmas by donating however much you can afford.

Many thanks

Katy

Well done and Thank you to you all for the very hard work you have all put in. Good luck with this very worthwhile venture

Many thanks Sam for your comments. You may also be interested to hear that a local business has offered to purchase a new washing machine for us this week. Isn't that just fantastic news! Not only will we be able to continue to run the service, but it will be more efficient energy wise, saving running costs too.

The community has been fantastic so far and we really, really appreciate it.

Once we have collated all the donations we will be issuing a press report to promote the new laundry and publicly thank our sponsors. Of course some people wish to remain anonymous so we will respect their wishes. As we need to check who is happy to be publicly thanked first I don't want to name anyone at the moment. I must re-iterate though that the public response has been overwhelming.

Many thanks Liphook residents and businesses

P.S. If anyone else would like to donate please pop in to
A3 Sports and see Beth, or contact me via the editor (sorry to be cheeky!)

Best wishes

Katy

Well, Katy, That is fantastic news. What a generous donation - as have all the donations been. I certainly hope that none of the donors wish to remain anonymous, and receive the full credit they all deserve.

I have just read the Council postal vote flyer that states Mr Newman & Mr Tough supports keeping open the Community Support Laundry. As the committee have had no contact with either of them it is good news to us. Does that mean they personally are going to donate to it as a great number of local residents and business have? If there is anyone else that would like to donate please contact me on 01428723823 or any committee member. Katy Clarke, Barbara Frost,Beth Marr, Jane Laver,Helen Brown,Jenny Wiseman, Betty Holt, Gordon Sawkins. The new committee take over the laundry on Dec17th.

I am so pleased the laundry is still being supported. My husband Barry held this project dear to his heart.

Good luck to the new Committee who have been formed to run the Community Laundry Service. Barry did do an awful lot to get the laundry up and running in the beginning and it would have been a shame to have seen his hard work wasted if it had closed .The Liphook people appreciated everything he did not only for the laundry but for the village as a whole so am sure the future Committee will carry this forward and give support to the elderly residents of Liphook as originally intended when the laundry first opened 20 + years ago.

I too have been alerted by all the recent publicity and hope it leads to lots of new customers! I expect ex councillors Tough and Newman will use it as their opportunity to get into the Herald again this week!

I am pleased to let you know that the Finance and Policy Committee last night, the Parish Council agreed to grant the Community Laundry £1000.

Good luck to all and I hope that the hunt for new equipment is fruitful. A brilliant service provided to the most needy in our community. Well done.

I too agree that the new Committee formed to run the laundry have done a really excellent job. They formed and got moving on this so quickly - it just goes to show what can be done if you are determined. Liphook has every reason to be pleased that this worthwhile facility has been saved - I believe that they are still collecting donations towards the project - and all contributions are gratefully received. A terrific job from all of you.

Dear Dawn,

On behalf of the committee I would like to publicly thank the Parish Council for supporting us and granting the £1K. This is a fantastic donation which now means we are able to purchase a new gas dryer. Along with the £1650 donated by Greenbank Homes for the new washer and some money ring fenced by the Carnival Committee for a new ironing press we are able to keep the service running. We have had several other donations from local businesses, charities and individuals which has helped us sort out the insurance, rent, utilities etc. The public support has been fantastic and we would like to thank everyone on behalf of the elderly that use the facility too. We have a committee meeting next week when we hope to approve the installation date of the new equipment. When it is all installed I am sure we will be able to invite sponsors round to see how their money has been spent.

Kind regards

Katy and the Community Support Laundry of Liphook committee.
