Liphook Herald
- jenny (18th Nov 2011 - 16:49:02)
Has anyone else noticed ---- EVERY week, there is a photo of John Tough on the front page of the Herald? Then --- there he is again this week and - we have him again inside - St. John's are joined by members of Liphook Scouts at Remembrance -why not Liphook Scouts are joined by St. John's for a start. I can't imagine he is the only member of Liphook doing "good works" --- I think there is a member of the Herald working as his PR / Spin Doctor!! Wonder if there is an Agenda?

There could well be some sort of agenda! A number of times I have contacted the LH with details of my son's success as probably the country's top warm up comedian including 2 Royal Variety Shows, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and numerous other high profile shows, only to be told they would "look into it" or "Sorry but we have no space".
But not to worry, following his performance in front of an audience of 14,000 at MEN Arena in Machester for Children in Need last night he was described in the national press today as "the Rolls Royce of Comedy......he should have his own TV show"
Look out for IAN ROYCE. ,

I am deeply sorry, sackcloth and ashes will be worn, for it was I - I took the photo. I am deeply ashamed, I thought it was a nice pic of most of the wreath laying party, I did not know I was playing into the Herald sub-editor's little hidden agenda.
Oh yes, it's the sub editor who does the captions not Gabrielle.
I agree the photo could have been captioned 'The Wreath Laying Party' (which is what I called it), or something more general.
There were three other members of The St John Ambulance there as well by the way. And WHY are they the St John Ambu.. and not The St John's Ambu... as I called them in the report two years ago (apologies) ?
But apart from that, did you like the other pictures? Ted Pilgrim - please can I look that good at 93!
Oh, just another thought, the Petersfield Post had the same report and photos - what did they do?

The astounding way he gets his photo on the front page of the Herald EVERY WEEK means he does not need to pay for an election agent to run his publicity when he stands for parish Council! Surely there is something happening in Liphook which does not include him?

I believe you have answered you own questions.
'i cant imagine he is the only member of Liphook doing "good works" '
I dont believe he is but he does do a tremendous amount within the community unlike various parish council members, its people like Mr Tough who is still driving the village forward.
Local celeb, I hope Ian Starr remembers the village like we remember him, keep up your class act "Roycie"
No i dont think he needs an agent because anyone with the village at heart will vote him back onto the parish council, your village needs more people ilke him.

there are lots on the Parish Council who do good works and it is not reported. I think that the point is we know that he is involved in the youth club etc and other young peoples activities but that others who also do good are not reported on.

I apologise for having upset the photographer - it is a lovely photo - it was only because there have got to be other fantastic stories - like Ian Starr - who I remember well as he was a contemporary of my children. I mean, what about JOHN THE TEDDY even - instead of John the Tough?
Let's read about something worthwhile and Fun!!

OK Michael. First of all - ALL Parish Councillors do good works. Has anyone thought of the HOURS spent by these Councillors - most of whom also have a job and have families - spend on Parish Council? They are also all representatives on organisations such as Age Concern, CAB, Community Magazine, Bramshott Educational Trust, Pres Soc, Community First, Allotments, Parish Plan and many other - these meetings are on top of their normal council meetings. I am told that Parish Councillors spend four or five hours a week and some - the more senior ones, spend a day a more a week; all for free.
I wonder how many people want to be on Parish Council and receive the flak created by those who don't do anything but moan.

OK Jenny(or is it helen?), this thread was started with you having a "moan".
Would i like to go on the council? Yes would be the answer, but sadly i give alot more than 5 free hours a week to the organisation im connected with so would have to find someone to take over my role first. And yes i also have a job.
I only moan when people are negative about others who do good for the community.
I am under the belief John Tough would also like to be on the council.

Yes of course he does, he is the local Chairman of the Labour Party and think of all the publicity? If you read his website also, he is a consultant, even when he was no longer a member of the Parish Council he did not remove that from his website have a look?

Well spotted Helen. I am perplexed - why would a staunch Tory in the form of Cllr Anna James propose the "lefty" Tough, Chairman of the local Labour Party? Why on earth would she also propose Nigel Newman? I smell another plot, three rats afoot, look out!.
There is no doubt that Dr John Tough does good works for the community and there is also no doubt that his mug shot is far too often in the media. Perhaps that’s just our bad luck or perhaps Gabrielle Pikie is strutting her stuff. There are countless men and women in this community “doing their bit”. Their humility and anonymity are enshrined.
I understand he was still one of the infamous 4, Newman, Tough, Olsen & James who voted in favour of the 8k + settlement made to the clerk and which is the subject of an enquiry whilst the clerk is under suspension with what could amount to criminal charges being brought again him and perhaps his cohorts. I understand Mr Newman and Dr Tough are standing for the forthcoming elections in December and Cllr James has proposed them no change there then!! I for one am so very pleased that a man of Phil Jordan’s character, experience and integrity has decided to put his name forward for consideration. I understand he resigned his position earlier this year when the skulduggery of the infamous four overwhelmed him. I now see a Council going in the right direction for the good of the community as a whole. If only more villagers and especially contributors to the excellent site would attend meetings and raise legitimate questions without the fear of recrimination (as was in the previous administration) It’s our village, get involved.

Has newman managed to clear his name on all 3 counts as this was the original reason he stepped down as chairman? I note he has just erected a twin unit mobile home in his eye-sore of a garden, i dare say he will probably say it is permitted development or has been there years! Is he the type of person to pass judgement on other peoples planning applications and help decide what is good for Liphook??

I do hope that the voters of Liphook remember the good works that Phil Jordan does in the village working as chairman of liphook in Bloom and Libda, and all without Gabrielle Pike giving him a mention every week!
