late collection of garden sacks
- Mary W (17th Nov 2011 - 21:42:57)
What's happening with the collections of rubbish and garden sacks in Station Road? I've been really patient, didn't have my bins emptied for three weeks, but just waited and eventually they got there. Then this week my garden sacks weren't collected on Tuesday and I left them another night in case they came Wednesday and somebody nicked a sack overnight, tipping the grass cuttings out on the verge. I really can't believe there are such awful people around.

They missed ours this week too off Portsmouth Road - even though they had collected it successfully since the new rota was introduced. The irony being I had just renewed my Garden Bag collection Licence! I rang Winchester and they said leave it out and they would try and collect it before the next round. Three days later, it is still awaiting collection so I don't hold out much hope. Teething problems I suppose whilst drivers get used to the new round.

They took my green bin. I'd left it out of people's way tucked neatly against the gatepost, it was lucky I came back again just afterwards, because they left the empty bin just thrown back outside the gate, blocking the way for everybody.
I think they have too few people doing the rounds and they are just worked off their feet trying to do too much. The chaps working the Headley Road bit looked absolutely shattered, out of breath and sweaty. No wonder they are leaving a few of us out every week.

I read in one of the local papers (The Messenger I think) that people in Winchester were very upset by this new company too.
The last lot were always very good and on time...why was it changed??

Bound to be saving money - I expect they went out to tender for new contract and probably this company came in with unrealistically low price to win contract. And are probably finding they just can't do it for the money because they can't afford to employ enough personnel. Just guessing, but wouldn't be surprised if I was right.

Spent an age recently gathering leaves and other autumnal debris, packed it neatly into the green bag.
Came home after the green waste collection and it seemed the collectors had emptied half the bag and thrown the rest around the drive and pavement. Not impressed, had to sweep up again!
Council contract cutbacks kicking in locally no doubt.

I didn't put my green bin out this week as there wasn't much in it (try and do as much recycling as possible) but when the lorry came along one of the men rushed up my path and took my bin down to the lorry! I have no complaints about the new service so far.
Maybe there is a different group of people doing the garden waste collection.
