Pond pump repair
- Elly (7th Nov 2011 - 11:14:33)

We have just moved to Liphook and inherited a lovely pond and water feature. However the water feature - which works via a pump has lost it's pressure and now trickles, rather than flows. Does any one know of a firm/ handy person who may be good at fixing these kind of things? Not sure if it is electriacal or pumbing! Or pond/garden type tradesperson!

Hi Elly

Have you checked that the foam filter attached to the pump (which I assume is submerged) is not just blocked with algae etc.

That is the usual problem, make sure you turn of the electrical supply to the pump before you pull it out of the water, the filter usually just pulls off the end and can rinsed clean using a hose.

There are 2 parts to the pond water feature. A spout that sticks up and acts as a fountain.(Working) Then a rockery thing that acts as a waterfall (this is now a water trickle!)

At the top of the rockery thing is a copper style bit of piping that is kind of bent over (like upside down j) where the water starts to flow down the rockery, It is inserted into a tube - which I assume is attached to pump mechanism, - down this tube there are not any blockages - as I have looked. But that's not to say that there aren't any further along the line!

Hi

At the pump end there is usually a small tap which controls how much water goes up to the spout and how much is left for the fountain.

Check to see if adjusting that helps.
