Questions on antenatal care and childminder
- Hanna (6th Nov 2011 - 19:58:35)

Hello

My family and I are hopefully moving from London to Liphook in early December - fingers crossed the house purchase goes smoothly.

I work full time in central London and would therefore need a childminder for my 1 year old daughter. Does anyone know of any good childminder with availability at this time? Any help would be highly appreciated.

I'm also pregnant with our second child, which means I'll have to decide on a new hospital to give birth at - that is, if I have a choice. Is there anyone who would be able to advise me on what hospital(s) is/are available and how the antenatal care in Liphhook works. Is it any good?

I can't wait to move, but it's so many things to do and I'd really need some experienced advised on where to turn.

Thank you!
Hanna

Hello,

Yes you do have a choice of a few hospitals and birth centres locally. We moved here a year ago when I was 7mo pregnant and you can go to the Royal Surrey, Basingstoke, QA in Portsmouth or The Grange birth centre in Petersfield. I went to QA and found it excellent, but that was only because we moved from Petersfield and I was already booked in there. Antenatal care tends to run through Chase hospital in Bordon and you can see your midwife at your Drs surgery in the village. The health visiting team is really good too.

I don't use a childminder so can't help you on that but I have booked my baby son into a nursery in Haslemere and my 3 year old goes to Madhatters in the village and is very happy there.

I hope the move goes well! If you'd like a local Mum to chat to about anything else, let me know and I'll try to help.

Hello

I hope the move goes well for you. Just to add to the previous post, you can also choose to go to Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford, to have your children. Even though we're in Hampshire you are close enough to Surrey to request that. It's a nice quick drive straight up the A3 now as well! You still see your local Hampshire midwives in your GP surgery for antenatal care, they refer you to Guildford for any care you need as they would with a Hampshire hospital. Postnatally, once you leave Royal Surrey, they pass you back into the care of your local Hampshire midwives. For any immediate concerns you can still ring Royal Surrey, but otherwise you are back in Hampshire care. All very easy and they are used to it.

I had all of my children in Guildford in very recent years, as did many local friends and would thoroughly recommend the hospital and care they gave. Excellent place with good facillites and I think a good rating for a maternity unit.

Good luck and hope all goes well!

I believe that Frimley is also an option if you choose. We had our son at Royal Surrey (RSH) - they were amazing for us - he and I had some complications and they were brilliant.

Sara is right, it\'s only 14 minutes to the hospital door now the Hindhead tunnel is built.

I\'ll second Gemma, in that if you want to chat anything over or get to know some mums in the village - keep in touch. Editor can pass email address on.

Good luck with everything!

Tori

Thank you so much for your help. I've been searching loads online and wasn't able to find any information on hospital choices for child birth when living in Liphook, but now I know!

It's also great to hear that your experience with Royal Surrey is good as I wouldn't want to select a hospital I know nothing about.

I'd love to met other mothers in Liphook once we made the move and it probably will happen naturally through children's activities. Although, I'll be working full time until mid April, so it might take some time before I'll be able to join in during the weekdays.

Thank you once again for your help and if anyone else has information on available childminders, please let me know.

Hanna

I hope the move goes smoothly for you Hanna.

I had to return to work when my children were 3-5 months old and I have used some excellent childminders. Two that are still working in Liphook are Marylin Munday 01428 722968 and Kara Brine 01428 724156.

I don't know if they have vacancies but their employment, like the rest of us, is subject to change at a moment's notice so it would be worth getting in touch and if they are the one for you, ask them to put your name on a waiting list.

Do check out the Hampshire County Council website and search "child care" then click on links for parents and search for the childminders in our post code area. You can see when they were last inspected and read the reports - it gives you a wealth of information. I don't know how up to date the "vacancies" section is and would suggest you phone.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am an Ofsted registered, experienced childminder who has very recently moved to Liphook. Get in touch if you have not yet found childcare, as I have availability.

Again I can vouch for the royal Surrey, fab, no complaints at all. I'd highly recommend them for your labour :)

I can also highly recommend Guildford Royal Surrey, I had both mine there and they dealt with pregnancy and labour complications superbly!!
As others have said; if you want to get to know local mums or info on the local area please ask editor for my email
Good luck with the move and pregnacy!!

And for the day when your child does something daft and needs looking at in a hurry (heaven forbid) (or at least you think the issue does). |Guildford is closer and quicker than everywhere else with A&E. The average time is about 15 mins, but I suspect in an emergency, most parents would be able to get there before an ambulance had even arrived in Liphook.

Hi

When is your baby due?
I moved to Liphook 1 year ago and am currently 30 weeks pregnant with my 3rd girl. I have a little girl that has just turned 2 and another girl that will be 5 next week.
I do not know ANY mums that are pregnant so would be nice to chat to someone else that is!

I moved from London to Hayling Island, then Hayling island to Liphook so was in the exact same situation with hospitals. I was advised that The Grange in Petersfield is lovely, but you can only go there if you have no pregnancy complications.
I have always had very complicated pregnancies (this one by far the worst) so i opted to go to The Royal Surrey, Guildford.
It is fantastic! I have had amazing antenatal care there, i was even admitted for a few days and my treatment during that time was great. Their antenatal ward also has a drop in service that is open 24 hrs a day 7 days a week so if you have any concerns or are just generally worried you can pop in and they will check you and the baby over. I think this is great if you just want some piece of mind and cant get hold of your midwife.

If you have anymore questions or want to chat drop me an email: maxineferguson@hotmail.com
