- Finchie (4th Nov 2011 - 21:05:04)

Assume this will be on a "buy one get one free" basis, and costs will only by 9K rather than 18k ? Would be great to hear that this election is actually free ? Please could someone clarify ?

Look forward to seeing some kind of minutes to show us what kind of great progress has been made in the last 9 months by all elected.

I am sure all will have put many hours in voluntarily and hope this is all on productive stuff to benefit the community ;-)

I have no knowledge or opinion on any charaters involved but I would love to see a cost benefit analysis of the amount of hours and cost poured into looking into the rear view mirror, while standing still (or actually reversing) ?!

I guess that's progress and democracy ! I can only blame myself for voting !

So look forward to another merry go round of enthusiatic people being voted in followed by another round of resignations and more tranches of of 9k being spent every time.

Personally, I'm abstaining, and suggest we spend no more money on elections until the latest debacle is resolved and we get agreement that the council is actually agreed on focusing on the community and our future.

Happy Weekend !

Cheers, Finchie

Couldn\'t agree more Finchie. I thought we had put all this behind us but it seems we have elected another crowd of axe-grinders.

Finchie,

You get my vote for posting of the year.

As you know i had my opinion on what would happen if certain people got voted on and off last time, and sadly again i think i was right.

I will vote for anyone who promises to look and progress this village, the village "that i love", forward and not look into what someone else had for tea last week.

Why don't you stand for election Finchie? or Nick? then your opinions might make a difference.

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Nick Hancock (5th Nov 2011 - 22:39:54)

I've been too put off by all I've seen over the last few years! I would rather express my opinion by voting, like everyone else.

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Frances (6th Nov 2011 - 10:32:43)

That's a shame Nick. Although obviously, you have to be fully committed before you are elected on to the Parish Council. It takes up a tremendous amount of time and work - it's a much easier option just to cast a vote.

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Finchie (8th Nov 2011 - 05:27:15)

Great question Frances. I will once the kids have flown the nest. I don't underestimate the time needed to be a councillor, so at moment it would be unfair on Finchess and Finchetes. Also, I know the current council put a lot of time and effort in. My frustration, in my opinion, that precious time of theirs is spent too focused on the wrong thing. But I guess that is their prerogative.

Cheers, Finchie

Truth to tell Frances, after six years as school governor including three as chair, and with two part time occupations as well as my full time job, I feel that it's someone else's turn. But my reply to your post was prompted by my disappointment that the newly elected councillors haven't found it in themselves to move on.

My experience watching the council is that, despite protesting the best intentions, anyone who is elected is quickly sucked into its politics.

Perhaps when Finchie decides to stand we can confront them together? (That's not a promise though!)

- Phelim McIntyre (22nd Nov 2011 - 15:21:58)

Hopefully we will get a couple of councillors who will not allow Judge Gerrard to read out personal "letters" explaining why he is suing an ex-councillor, who will ask why Ms Hoskins is on the working party that re-suspended Tony Groves when her evidence was rejected by East Hampshire District council, will ask why Mr Gerrard is on the same working party when his election leaflets stated everything that he has since retold to the press/public attending the parish council, will ask why Lib Dem members are now so worried about the development work that has been started on the Bohunt Manor Estate when they voted for the work before the May elections, and will ask why the temporary assistant clerk was removed without her being given any reason for her contract to be terminated. Hopefully they will also ask why Mr J Trodden, a member of the Justice and Anti-corruption Party and a parish councillor for Greatham (not Bramshott and Liphook) is so knowledgeable about issues that pre-date the May elections when he has never been on this Parish Council.

We have four people standing as far as I am aware - John Tough (who people on this site appear to be against even though he has done huge amounts for the Parish and, unlike the Lib Dems who in September got people from outside the Parish to go round door to door, went round and delivered the majority of his election leaflets himself), Nigel Newman, Philip Jordan, and Mr Trotter. Mr Totter stood earlier this year as a member of the Anti-corruption and Justice Party. Considering Mr Gerrard's behaviour do we really want another member of that party on our council?

Oh yes, Greatham has 3 parish councillors - one of whom is Mr Gerrard's wife. Surely this mean that any decisions Mr Gerrard makes concerning his wife's expenses, activities and reports must be subjected to the same questioning about cronyism that he demands is placed on people in this Parish?

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Councillor Barbara Easton (22nd Nov 2011 - 16:33:48)

What a rant !

Parish councillors receive no expenses, any of their leaflets are published at their own expense.

I personally do a lot of phone work from home and use a lot of petrol on Parish Council matters there is no system to reclaim this.

Even teas and coffee in the Parish office are bought in by the councillors.

We are a democracy of 12 and no one councillor has the power to stop personal statements, after all Mr Newman did this also?

Perhaps Phelim if you were so upset by what happened you could have come forward as a councillor?

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Jock Trodden (22nd Nov 2011 - 18:03:53)

Poor old Phlem, Gets the wrong end of the stick again. Greatham has actually 7 Councillors, not 3 as he asserts. He is obviously deluded about how things work. Maybe if he could attend meetings and report- on an informed basis - we could take him seriously.
I own 3 properties in Liphook and have always taken an interest in local politics. I have personally witnessed gross miscarriages of justice instigated and orchestrated by the infamous four; Newman, James, Tough and Olsen, who clearly had their own "infamous agenda". The current administration rightly instigated an enquiry which is now coming to a conclusion proving for all to see the impropriety of their actions some of which may be criminal, we shall see in due course. All of those people have now gone or, in the case of the ever litigious clerk, are under suspension awaiting dismissal we hope. Wakey wakey Phlem and clear your head

The saga goes on ! Yet another hugely expensive election.Liphook is renowned for its charitable fundraising activities - bike rides, carnival floats, fetes, parachute jumps, open gardens to name just a few; all to raise hard earned funds for various good causes. So what to we get on the other side of the coin ?just a handful of people requesting an election which will cost a staggering sum of up to £10000 i am told.what a flagrant waste of village funds. There are far more worthy ways tp spend parish funds - just look at the liphook postings to see just a few.Why can't the remaining liphook councillors be trusted to select the two replacements required from the four candidates ?They represent a good cross section of the liphook populace. No doubt here will be two large halls booked for the election, when one would more than be adequate. At the last election there were more people sitting at the desks than actually voting !Will logic ever take over from red tape?

Another load of people digging at others, surprise surprise well i've learnt to let the people who are in power to do things they are allowed and leave others to sit and wish or hope for what could/should/may of been. What does concern me is the fact Mr Trodden (the so called good for the community, i'm looking out for everyones best interests, death to all with an opinion) who time and time again belittles and mocks others has again been allowed to slate someone, this time by slightly changing their name as to indicate what he thinks of them, to of written wrong once could be forgivable but twice is just plain rude. I hope i never have the misfortune of meeting your great self!!

With the election just a week away i have been keeping an open mind on voting i dont know who is standing i have not seen these people and i dont even know them
pehaps these contenders would like to make themselves known either on this talkback or pehaps in an open public space like sainsburys( i forgot they probably cant during the day as they are working so how about Saturday Morning or even Friday afternoon (nb if any parish councillors happen ro read this thread where are the minutes of all the meetings held since june and july not on line when i last looked)

Re: Election of Parish Councillors for Bramshott and Liphook
- Paul (24th Nov 2011 - 20:54:43)

In my opinion it's a pity the council can't simply 'down size' and stay with the current number of councillors and donate the money that goes on the election to a cancer charity or similar deserving cause.
