Restaurant for wedding anniversary?
- Tim Jordan (9th Oct 2005 - 12:08:06)

Any recommendations?

I don't mind Bibi Ana's but doesn't feel quite "special" enough

Any where within 5-10 miles would be OK as I don't mind sorting a taxi out.

Thanks,

Tim

I would recommend the Poachers Pocket in Haslemere. It's just along from Woolworth's on the opposite side of the street and even better, just a train stop if you don't fancy a taxi.

My husband and I have been there quite a few times over the past 3 years, just the 2 of us or with friends and family and it has been fantastic every time.

In my opinion The Black Fox is the pick in our local area. I wasn't overly impressed by the Poachers Pocket, it has a limited menu I thought and just a little bit basic. Bibi Anna's is very nice tho.

Personally I think the Sun Inn at Rake is lovely especially for those extra special occasions.

Although it is a pub it does have a very nice restaurant area and the selection of food is lovely. We have been a few times for anniversarys and Valentines celebrations and have never been let down by the food!

The staff and owner are all welcoming and it is a very nice quaint pub which serves fabulous food. Its not an every day kind of place though as the prices are above usual meal out prices, but worth it.

Hope this helps and have a lovely evening wherever you end up...........................

i agree with Michelle- Sun Inn is very good,if not a bit overpriced though.
The restaurant is run by a couple of South Africans and the food is excellent

Hello Tim,
We at The Black Fox have a 40 seat restaurant and a 64 seat private function room. We specialise in weddings, anniversaries and celebrations of most things.
Give me a call on 01428 723218 and I will be very pleased invite you down to have a look and discuss your requirements.

Allan.

Hi Allan,

Sorry it's just for a meal for two, although a pint of Black Fox Bitter is always welcome and I did have a lovely Sunday Lunch with the folks there in the Summer.

I will bear you in mind if I need a venue for a larger celebration in the future.

Cheers, Tim

Tim,

OK I can see that a pub / restaurant is probably not what you are looking at for this occasion allthough I'm sure Allan can do a table for two just as well as a function for 64. There is also a jolly good new ale now served alongside the, award winning, Black Fox Bitter.

Maybe you want the starchy tablecloths and Gordon Ramsay style food, if so then Jacob Saul Watkins (of JSW, in Heath Road, Petersfield) is the nearest owner of a Michelin star.

Mike - Didn't realise we had a Michelin starred restaurant in the area - just shows how you can learn from this website! I know a Michelin star isn't everything but its a good start and looking on the net the restaurant seems to have had some good reviews.
In complete contrast to the 'starchy tablecloth' approach though, is the Keepers Arms at Trotton - which has what can only be described as a 'unique ambiance' (see website). Perhaps a bit too informal for an anniversary but very cosy, a bit different, good food and friendly service.
