Planning ahead - snow socks for tyres any good?
- Sharon (18th Oct 2011 - 10:02:37)
Hi, rather than wait until it gets cold and icy and everything's sold out, I thought I'd plan ahead.......
Has anyone tried snow socks on their car tyres, and were they any good? They seem like a good idea to have, just in case! Of course, if I buy some, it will guarantee that we will have a mild winter - good insurance I think!

Bought them last year as they were highly recommended by internet based know-it-alls.
Certainly they worked when I used them, but no evidence that they were any better than naked tyres.
One warning, they will wear out fast if used on tarmac, so best as emergency back up.
Handy hint is to keep two bits of old carpet in the boot. If you get stuck, place them under the two driving tyres and they'll get you moving. Rescued me more than once!

I have always kept old cardboard boxes [flatened] in the back of the car, use the same method as the carpet. Have never been stuck - as this method always works. It is also free!

I used them last year and they were absolutley brilliant.
I bought mine from Liphook Motors for £39.99.
Much cheaper than paying for a recovery truck to pull you out
