The stem cell research dilemma
- Alex Cameron (29th Sep 2005 - 14:25:40)
"Adult stem cells restore feeling in paraplegic"
World Net Daily Article
In an apparent major breakthrough, scientists in Korea report using umbilical cord blood stem cells to restore feeling and mobility to a spinal-cord injury patient paralysed for 19 years.
After an infusion of umbilical cord blood stem cells, stunning results were recorded:
"The patient could move her hips and feel her hip skin on day 15 after transplantation. On day 25 after transplantation her feet responded to stimulation."
So the inevitable (and difficult) question - is it acceptable to use umbilical cells and/or embryos to help the crippled mobile again?

It's banned in America I believe yet Stem Cell research is allowed to continue over here and rightly so in my humble opinion.
I read an article stating that this was being tested by BDA as a cure for type 1 diabetes. The article continued to say that a vast majority of American diabetics were already talking about paying to come to the UK for the trials and or the cure when it is delivered. This being the case the government were more likely to take people who were willing to pay for it from the States first. How bad is that?
