Housing Developments in Liphook
- Jeremy (28th Sep 2005 - 10:03:15)

Hi

We have lived in the village for nearly 6 years and are increasingly worried about the level of housing development that is being threatened. Does anyone know exactly what is proposed for the Lowsley Farm site behind Lark Rise/ Yeomans Lane? I note there is development currently on-going in that area.
How long will it be before the whole of the area behind the aforementioned roads is in-filled with housing thereby extending the village boundary to the A3 and from the Headley Road to Griggs Green?
I'd be grateful for any information anyone may have about what has been proposed / decided on for this area. Many thanks and kind regards.

Jeremy,
Best to look in at the district council offices at the Haskell Centre to see if they can give you details. There is a local plan that was the subject of recent exhibitions at the Millenium Hall etc.

Too many houses are going up in a bid by the government to curtail house prices for first time buyers, which is a mixed blessing. Since the 80's and Thatcher a cult of House buying, building and renovating has sprung up and houses have become a commodity rather than a home and a financial investment rather than a family environment, that coupled with high divorce rates and lax migration means more houses are needed driving prices up in desirable areas, therefore the only way too tackle this in a free market economy, according to the law of supply and demand, is to encourage more development in order to check house prices. And voila Suburban hell for as far as the eye can see.

What we need is more DIY and Property programs on T.V to strengthen our building culture at the expense of all other Cultural pursuits.

England used to be a nation of shop keepers now it is a nation of house builders and mediocre DIY enthusiasts. That is about the extent of our collective imagination it seems.
