try getting in touch with the head green keepers at both Liphook golf club and old thorns - find out their names and deal directly with them. even if they have nothing on offer at the moment ask them if they would keep your details 'incase'. Liphook is a man called Dave Murdoch (don't know who is head at Old Thorns now)

When you do your work experience (this year I imagine ) try and choose a placement that could lead to a part time job. If you make a good impression on placement it should hopefully increase your chances.

My boys also did well at baby sitting (don't worry , no one will hand over their baby to you!!) for 5 - 6 year olds. it helps if you have your babysitting first aid training.

good luck!

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade but an employer like Old thorns would not be allowed to employ a 14 year old even for part time work their insurance would not cover them. Private individuals are more flexible.

from Directgov:
''When you're 14, you can be employed in a wide range of jobs, but there are still some that you can't do. For example you may not work in factories or on a building site. If you're unsure about whether you can work in certain jobs, check on these with the local authority.''

Two of my boys have had golf club jobs at 14. I agree Helen they could not do bar work etc (until 18) and restrictions on hours and start/ finish times apply until 16 but 14 year olds most definately can be employed. I know a local care home that has a 14 year old in on the weekends sweeping leaves etc.

Bohunt aren't sending the pupils on work experience any more either.

There are too many health and safety hoops for employers to jump through if they are planning to employ under 16s -it was bad enough in our office when we agreed to have a 15 year old for work experience.

The only job my son could find was a paper round for the Messenger but the round (including folding the papers with leaflets then delivering in all weathers) took at least 2.5 hours and he only got paid around £4.75 and approx 50p extra for each leaflet. Couldn't believe it when at Christmas the pay was lowered because "the paper was thinner"!!!

To give him credit he stuck it out for around 9 months (including delivering through the snow) then we decided enough was enough.
