increased noise from the A3 since the tunnel opened
- emma bassom (2nd Oct 2011 - 21:05:24)

has anyone noticed a vast increase in road noise and increased traffic on the A3 since the tunnel opened a few months ago?

This is probably due to the traffic actually being able to move.

Very much so.

I presume more people are using the route now there are no long delays at Hindhead. I had expected a little less traffic in the village but that doesn't seem to have happened - in fact the 'old A3' seems to be even busier - and I have no idea why!

not actually aware of any more noise in griggs green have noticed more activity at old thorns with fireworks - dog not happy and louder bangs on ranges with windows beginning to shake with helicopters and some strange cracks appearing!!! in plaster .

There is definitely more traffic on the A3 and about the same on the ‘old’ A3. It make joining the A3 particularly Southbound more of a fun experience.

In terms of noise the thing I’ve noticed is that noise has moved. if that makes any sense, in that it seems to be coming from different (more?) places on the A3 now compared to where on the A3 it was coming from previously pre tunnel. That may explain the sudden increase in noise. Not very scientific I know !

I think there is a lot more traffic going past Liphook, and there are definitely fewer gaps in the traffic when joining the A3, going south. In the last 2 weeks I've nearly run out of road on the sliproad, and even more scarily, driven down the sliproad and come across another car stopped on the sliproad waiting to go on. Is it just me, or are the sliproads are too short now there is more traffic? (I should say that I use the A3 at least 3 days a week and have done for several years and neither of these things has happened to me before! I don't make a habit of stopping on sliproads!!)

I've noticed it, but am north of the A3, so put it down to the unusually hot weather and south easterly winds. However, that wouldn't make sense for the village. Plus having the windows open at night !

Still happy it is done and it is fantastic. Makes it a pleasure getting to Guildford.

Cheers, Finchie

More noise can definitely be heard from the A3 in Griggs Green - especially during the night. Of more concern is the Chinook helicopters which fly so low they cause my leaded windows to shake alarmingly and terrify the animals. Have lived here 25 years and never this bad. I spoke to the MOD who explained that it is legal for them to come to ground level and they need to practice \'ducking\' behind tall hedges to enable them to avoid enemy fire in a combat situation. Time to trim the hedge perhaps ????!!!!!!!
