Union’s
- Bemused (8th Jan 2023 - 13:57:51)

Can’t understand why is it that Union’s try and bring down a government and make the country in a mess . They say they are supporting their members but what they are doing is hurting everyone not making the country better. The union barons seem to just do as they please regardless of any hurt to the country. I thought Union’s were supposed to work for their members negotiating pay and conditions etc sensibly not get involved in politics. Why try and bring the country to its knees and hurt everyone for no sensible reason. I have never belonged to a union because I thought why pay into an organisation where the money goes to give the top person a very lucrative life. My thought’s only.

The Unions currently active are a throw back to Scargill looking to use their members hardship for political agitation. That being said uncontrolled big business and employers have been running over/ ignoring employment laws for some time now and there seems to be very little balance in the workplace. Also fat cat greedy owners have pushed people back to the unions

1. Industrial revolution
2. Information revolution
3. Social revolution

In the Industrial revolution people worked for abusive bosses (boss is always right and few jobs)

Information revolution these people came to work for “standard of living” as there parents in the Industrial took care of survival.

The 3rd revolution is the social revolution, they don’t care about survival, their grandparents took care of that, they don’t care about standard of living as there parent took care of that, todays work force cares about quality of life.

Many of you talk in terms of the OLD, sure you got us here but the future does not include you and your work is welcomed but no one is going backwards.

It’s the people who bust their A***s to make the world and it’s the people who decide what direction the world will go.

When you side with bosses… you are the enemy, YOU are the POISON that fills the pockets of the few, you are the obedient fools that let the few steal from many, you are the selfish that are told you fat wallet is because of your individual effort yet you will never reach it as you enslaved yourself .

Enjoy your material and hate of your neighbor while those above you laugh at you.

Well Ian & Sam thanks for your thoughts. Interesting reading Ian I understand your post but Sam sorry don’t understand it at all didn’t give an answer to the question. Both of you didn’t explain why the Union’s are devastating the country with their actions it doesn’t help the country by closing business putting people out of work. By going on strike it effect’s everyone brings the economy down makes things worse so what does it achieve. The train union have been actively causing trouble for months for no good reason their pay and conditions are very good compared to many ordinary working people. Their actions have caused many business to fail and put people out of work so how can they justify their actions. Union’s of today should take a step back and realise the damage they are doing to the country yes support workers in a genuine dispute but do it through negotiations if that doesn’t work then go to an. Independent court for a decision strikes should not be an option they damage the economy which in turn makes us worse off.

Bemused, I think I have stated what the Unions primary motivation is. Political agitation with the aim of undermining the Government and forcing an election which they think, their cronies, The Labour Party have a good chance of winning.

Taken from the latest Gov.uk Trade Union membership stats:

The proportion of UK employees who were trade union members fell to 23.1% in 2021 down from 23.7% in 2020. This represents the lowest union membership rate on record among UK employees for which we have comparable data (since 1995).

Admittedly this figure is from 2021 but it doesn't look like there's too much movement towards Union membership.

In my opinion Unions are a great way of representing employees in large organisations as it's far easier to deal with one representative than thousands. I would add that from my experience it's these large organisations that actually provide the best conditions and overall pay when you take into account all factors (working week, sick pay, holidays, employee support). It's the small/middle sized organisations that tend to be a bit more ruthless in their negotiations with employees.
I do agree that no one wins when employees go on strike and the biggest losers are the general public and the country as a whole.

Yes Ian on the button. M yes I think you are right Union’s are good at negotiating for big business saving a lot of time. But they go to far they try and run the business which is quite wrong that’s why I say after a set time any negotiations that have failed should go to an independent court for settlement. Union’s are good they have done a fantastic job in making the work place much better but the barons as they are called think they can run the country which is totally out of order they should be removed and a different way of running the Union’s should be introduced.. Labour I see are changing their tune on a regular basis perhaps they can see the light this country has changed its.view’s on an enormous amount of things in the past few years perhaps it will settle and we can go forward for better times.
