Dog barking
- Robert (27th Dec 2022 - 16:30:00)
Intolerable, continuous barking of a dog in distress somewhere off Devil's Lane, close to Haslemere Road junction. Obviously a dog left alone and tied up outside. The same yesterday as well. Some people ought not to be allowed to keep dogs.

Coming from caravan site, I walked past yesterday. Not the sort to go and question.

The dog is not just tied up outside, left on his own. He has a kennel with shelter not tied up at all and a bed also with a coat. The dog is most spoilt dog I have ever known. He has separation anxiety what we are working on.. he can’t be left indoors he chews everything and still just barks. My mum was rushed to hospital so he had to be left in his kennel for a few hours on his own till someone was home from work. Thanks for the concern he is fine.

Hi the dog which was barking in devils lane, 1, he was not tied up at all nor has he ever been while outside, 2, he was in his kennel, which has plenty of room for him to roam around and also has shelter, unlike some people's dog kennels, 3, the dog had a coat on him to also help keep him warm., 4, the dog was confused with the situation going on with his owner, whom was rushed into hospital that day and this was the reason he had been put in his kennel, and due to his serious separation anxiety which he suffers from badly, he didn't understand what going on, but his separation anxiety is being worked on, 5, if he was able to of gone to the hospital with her, I know that he most definitely would of been taken along, he was only outside due to nobody else being at home ,but once they had got home he went indoors, and I am sure that nobody would want to leave a dog indoors that would chew anything and everything up that he can, but only does it due to being separated and probably feels alone and abandoned, the dog is so well looked after and spoiled. Also loved by all that know him.

Ben and Chloe thanks for enlightening everyone one on the situation.
A dog that has issues like you describe must be very difficult to live with and wish you luck in trying to remedy them.
I would say though that you need to think about other people that live near to you and ensure that you dog does not impact on others with it's barking. A constantly barking dog is a noise nuisance and it it continues to occur you may find that EHDC become involved, and that will never end well.
Good luck with your work on the dog, it won't be easy but please think of others and don't leave it outside on it's own until you've been able to stop it's anxiety.

He’s a dog they do bark, we do think of others, this don’t happen all the time like I said before my mum was rushed into hospital that can’t be helped. and he was out in his kennel for hour and half tops both days. If he was inside the caravan he would still bark because he is on his own. The dog will never learn if he’s not put in these situations.

I doubt EHDC would do anything much. For years now we have been subjected to the poor dogs which are often left outside barking all day at a house next to the Radford Bridge (Canadian War Memorial) London Rd. All EHDC will likely do is post a polite letter through the door. No staff or money in the budget to effectively deal with the problem. In the old days we used to have a dog warden. Maybe I am wrong it could have been in Bordon.

All dogs barking unnecessarily are a nuisance to other people. Dogs should not be left out barking all day all it does is encourage them to do it because it becomes normal. Dog training is very complex and should be carried out on a daily basis. Best of luck with your dog but don’t let in upset people.

Again I agree with Countryman. Dogs do bark from time to time that is true ie when a visitor comes to the door etc, etc. Dog is alerting the owners of, in his mind, a possible intruder. Happy dogs do not bark continuously – they bark because they are lonely and distressed. Chloe I think you need to do some research into the handling and training of a dog that suffers with separation issues. The answer is not just to leave them outside (wearing a coat is irrelevant) on their own when you know that they have issues. That is just cruel and shows a complete disregard of the dog’s feelings or anyone else’s. I had a lurcher years ago, a young rescue dog. I knew what I was taking on – he had terrible separation issues and was extremely destructive. I was advised to start leaving him by going out of the front door so he felt alone, but only for 2 or 3 minutes and them come in by the back door. Reward and treat. This to be repeated for longer and longer times and eventually after many, many weeks he became quite used to being left for 2 to 3 hours. I know that in this case you had a medical emergency but surely a neighbour or friend could have stepped in to help. Hearing a dog bark for any length of time is extremely stressful so I do sincerely hope for the sake of your dog and your neighbours that you undertake a sensible training program for your dog. Your statement “The dog will never learn if he’s not put in these situations.” indicates to me that you need to do some research into the psyche of dogs because just leaving him/her for long periods will not teach your dog anything.

The dog is perfectly fine, like I said before he is my mums dog not mine she had to go into hospital. No one could have the dog for a hour and a half that’s why he was in his kennel. I can’t take a dog to a soft play centre or swimming pool so he had to be left alone. Also I can’t change my day with a child with asd I done all I could by having him with me all apart from hour and hour two days! Before coming on here saying I need do a dog training course when I don’t even have a dog my mum knows what’s best for her dog she’s had plenty throughout her life it can’t be helped if she was rushed to hospital. And thanks for the advice but my mum is already doing that and has been for months it don’t work for him it’s baby steps. Properly don’t help neighbours dog wonders around and barks when he can’t get in what sets my mums dog off. Also people walking up and down lane talking sets him off. He was in his kennel tonight no barking because he’s not being set off by other people or dogs. Don’t understand the big problem when it’s happened twice because of emergency. Maybe if it happens next time you could look after him as your such an expert.
