Freeview reception
- B (24th Sep 2011 - 16:45:22)

Is anybody having any problems with the reception of ITV and Channel 4 channels at the moment? We seem to have no signal for them a lot of the time. We have checked the receiver etc here and that is all fine.

All OK from the Hannington transmitter. Are you pointing at the Midhurst transmitter ?

You may need to re-tune. I'm picking up from Midhurst, and not having any problems, but a message keeps popping up saying that new services are detected - please re-tune. I haven't, but if you haven't re-tuned in a while, some of your data may be out of date.

We did retune about a week ago, but it all seems ok now. I think we are pointing at the Hannington aerial, fingers crossed its ok now.

I too have "poor signal" for some of these freview channels, often at night, usually at the denouement, when the perpetrator is about to get nicked.

Worse the rugby world cup is also affected and risks spoiling more than the day.

I have advice from BT on email, too big to share here, but let me know if you would like a copy.

I have also checked out this; www.aerialsandtv.com/... Much is beyond me, but it does say that digital signal from Hannington towards the east, Guildford is problematic. Maybe this is an answer.

As yet re-tuning has not worked.

After a long history of freeview reception problems we decided, 6 months ago, to a switch to FreeSat.

A move that we have never regretted, perfect Digital reception, almost the same range of channels and the bonus of HD.

Bye Bye Hannington, we don't miss you.

We had a similar problem until a couple
Of months ago. Solution: a new aerial. It cost a bit but was well worth it and will be compatible with whatever happens at digital switchover. Call J S Aerials on 01420 472669 / 07973 231979 - helpful and reliable (originally recommended by Hampshires).

Well, low signal from Hannington on ch 43 with zero for quality for sometime this morning.

Just jumped back to 90% quality and the ITV channels are back.

I had problems Thursday mornings, 45 channels instead of the expected 80 odd. A retune later that day fixed it. Perhaps they should turn up the power a bit at the mast?
