Felled Tree Opposite Iron Hill

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows the details on the huge tree that has been felled opposite the Iron Hill car park?
I've no issue with the felling, I was just curious why it had to be done, is there some disease issues? As well I was wondering if anyone has any grand plans for what to do with the wood, it's not every day you get a 2m diameter trunk to play with!
