Council tax
- Ian (20th Jul 2022 - 20:15:59)
Why do we pay council tax? When was the last time you saw a policeman in the village? The grass verges have only been cut once, that after lots of complaints. Brown bins haven't been collected for 3 weeks, no glass boxes collected today and some people haven't had their recycled bin collected today. Council tax goes up every year and we just pay it! We must be mad!

Part of the problem is with NORSE SE which EHDC out sourced to collect waste, cut verges etc. Once the contract is signed EHDC appear to have no control over the questionable service they deliver. I believe they have given NORSE SE the contact for 8 years.

Guess what , nothing is working as it should. We shut the country down and told people not to go to work, and guess what they are not going to work. Now how do you suggest we get out of this ?

Surely if NORSE SE aren't keeping to the contract it is up to EHDC to kick them out!

Certainly no point in paying for the police, they have decriminalised most crime now by inaction and political correctness.

Not in the slightest bit concerned about grass verges being cut and I don't buy this safety nonsense either, the sooner we grow out of this mindset of cutting everything the better. Nature does a great job of looking after itself it does not need us to survive so why do we need to burn petrol to cut grass a dozen times a year its madness.
Sure trim a hanging tree over the road, trim the overhangs into the roads but otherwise leave it alone

Hi,
Council Tax (or the old "rates" back in the day) have nothing to do the with the poo Services offered.
The money raised is for Council offices ,salaries of staff, and a generous pensions at retirement.
Do away with this old, bureaucratic system, and replace it with a funding mechanism for our needs of the 21st century locally.

Police and Crime Commissioners don't exactly fight crime, they are a recent modern polical appointment and their budgets, paid for by us, require them to oversee and/or penalise the police, ensure they don't arrest people without taking into account every last one of their rights, preferably not arresting anyone at all unless they are accused of some politically incorrect crime etc!
They get to decide the police budget, manage it, appoint or sack the Chief Constables, set policing priorities, where the budget is spent and what crimes the police should prioritise etc.
In that regard it is somewhat like electing a cross between Boris Johnson, Janet Street-Porter and Mr Bean to take the place of the Chief Constable and run the police force.
Glad to clarify that one, please rest assured your tax money is being well spent:)
