Coronavirus up in Liphook.
- paul (19th Jun 2022 - 20:34:22)

Hi,
As the media is starting to report country-wide Covid-19 cases are ticking up with no signs of this changing soon.

Our village had 13 new cases last week (up 44% on the previous week).

With more social occasions taking place, festivals, sports events, etc, there will be no stopping this dreadful disease spreading over Summer. This includes long-covid systems that also effects children.

Lets hope booster jabs this Autumn will help us all.

Also, flu is up, colds are up, record pollen levels causing severe hayfever. Don’t forget monkey pox and also stay in doors to prevent heatstroke this summer. Remember everyone, it’s dangerous out there STAY SCARED!

Ian

For some people Covid still presents a major threat either to them personally or people they care about. It seems that you are lucky enough not to be among them. They are not 'scared' (sounds reminiscent of playground 'scaredy cat' bullying) but are being sensibly cautious. For them, an autumn booster would be welcome.

Liz

I appreciate your concerns although for some the flu and hayfever induced asthma are deadly and no doubt some will die of heat related issues as well. However we do just need to now live with Covid as we do so many other viruses. Paul has a history of posting Covid doom posts, he says he is just providing a community service but most of us know his agenda is a lot more mischievous

I'm curious as to how the official Covid statistics can be deemed reliable now that the vast majority of people are no longer routinely testing.

Just to put some balance though, mortality continues to fall (no new fatalities in the local area) and hospitalisations for Covid at Royal Surrey have not increased either.

Sorry, I’m more concerned about the cost of living now. Almost had a heart attack when I filled my car up and the weekly shop!!

Cost of living is the new virus!

Flu and asthma are a threat to vulnerable people but not as great as Covid and as you know there are a whole host of other factors which I won't go into here. I don't think calling people 'scared' is in any way constructive. People make their own choices and should not be ridiculed.

I've had it this last week - and my partner. We've not reported it to anyone - are we supposed too? - so these figures can be added to the mix.

It's not much fun - really hard to shake off. But yes - it's just like flu.

Liz, I think you are missing the point of my original contribution. I’m not criticising people for being anxious or scared, I’m highlighting scaremongering!

Covid never went away and never will, just like the flu and other corona viruses. If people are going to still be fearful of it then I think their lives are going to be very stressful. We have the worlds goverments to thank for that. Meanwhile Boris and co partied on as they knew it wasn't the threat that they had brainwashed people into thinking it was.

And yes there will be more deaths again this year from respiratory illnesses and other diseases. Somehow these deaths now come as a shock where once we accepted them as part of the web of life.

Watching the news has been horrendous and they really need to acknowledge their part in the reaction to covid. Let us hope the world doesn't go mad again.

It's okay people don't panic.

I'm not wearing a mask anywhere, still paying with cash, still going into shops, still using buses and trains when they run, still working in Brixton.

I'm not scared live your lives. Remember covid is not dangerous now and as long as you have a jab you'll be okay.

I think it's sensible to remember Covid without going needlessly mad. Thanks Liz for being sensible — people can definitely be concerned if they've good reason to. For the rest of us, lockdown's over.
