Headley Road Litter
- Paul Robinson (3rd Jun 2022 - 19:30:47)
Living in Headley Road, I regularly pick up litter on my way up to the Co-op shop, So, imagine my surprise, as a bookseller, to find a paperback copy of 'Para Handy' by Neil Munro on the floor of the defibrillator kiosk, on the junction of Headley Road and Tower Road. Para Handy is the crafty Gaelic skipper of the Vital Spark, a Clyde puffer (steamboat) of the sort that delivered goods from Glasgow to Loch Fyne, the Hebrides, and the west coast highlands of Scotland in the early 20th century. The stories partly focus on his pride in his ship, "the smertest boat in the tred" which he considers to be of a class with the Clyde steamers.
Imagine that.
