I sincerely hope no-one would do this whilst birds are nesting!

Getting really fed up with the do gooder, environmental warrior, tree hugger vegan brigade telling us what to eat, what not to cut etc etc!!! Often putting their beaks in when they know nothing about the circumstances! Tiresome bores!

Point to note that the countryside act is in place to stop the indiscriminate mechanical hedge flailing during nesting season. NOT the trimming of domestic hedges or formal garden pruning.
Any firm with a sense of respect, inspect for wildlife before they carry out work.
There are many locally that are fantastic. Tree Surgeons / foresters and gardeners do not down tools over nesting season, just work around it.
Do your homework before posting please. Also not every hedge provides a suitable habitat.
Domestic cats do more damage to garden birds numbers than anything.

J
You should perhaps take your own advice and check your facts before you post.

J, surely the end result is the same, be it a tractor cutting a hedge or someone with shears?

So here is the exact wording from the GOV website regarding cutting hedges
You must not do any work which might harm nesting birds or destroy their nests. You’ll usually find nesting birds during the main nesting and breeding season from 1 March to 31 August.
So in other words it’s an offence to disturb nesting birds if they are present.
Wilful destruction of nests is not acceptable,
If there are no birds nesting at present in what you are cutting then you can crack on .
I was only pointing out that if people are conscientious enough to inspect before they start then that’s good practice all round.
The reference to the domestic Cat however is pure hearsay ….. I’m just going on the amount my cat brings into the house at this time of year .

There are frightening statistics to be found online with reference to how domestic cats have decimated the small bird population. Almost one in two households keep a pet cat
now.

Ian- Getting really fed up with people failing to grasp the seriousness of the situation with regard to how seriously Humans have decimated the natural world but continue to carry on regardless in their behaviour and attitude despite the oncoming irreversible tipping point.

Oh Pete, aren't you you the clever expert! Are you so well educated in all related fields and topics that you are qualified to morally judge us and tell the majority how to live our lives; or like so many, just picking up bits and pieces you read on the Internet and blindly believe it as gospel?

Dear All,
Many thanks for all the recommendations for someone to come and cut back my hedge that definitely does not house any nesting birds but is definitely obscuring visibility to pull out safely from my driveway and is also encroaching on a public pavement.
I can happily report that I have sourced someone independently who is coming to do this this week.
Have a great week!
Peace and Love ;-)

No, don't do it, you could kill something! Make sure they check for birds, cats, anarchists, stowaways and illegal immigrants, who could all be hiding in your hedge this time of year!

Oh Ian- Who exactly was I morally judging, am I not allowed to get fed up with your ilk just the same as you are with mine. As for education you don't need a diploma to see what is going on in the world environmentally you just need to walk around with your eyes open. That said I suspect I may be slightly better educated as I didn't have to resort to name calling and insults in my post.

Didn't you just love those animal activists that tried to disrupt the Jubilee Trooping of the Colour parade. Lovely educated people!
