The River Wey Trust at the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
- The River Wey Trust (27th May 2022 - 09:40:10)

The River Wey Trust www.riverweytrust.org.uk are having their AR Sandbox at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations on Thursday.

This is always popular with children and adults alike where they experience a hands on understanding of water flow.

In addition there will be an opportunity to search for live invertebrates taken from the local River Wey and observe them through a microscope projected onto a TV screen. A fascinating insight on our local waterway and used by the River Wey Trust to monitor water quality.

Our stand will be located next to the Millennium Centre on the patio area.

We look forward to your visit

The River Wey Trust stand at the Liphook Platinum Jubilee will include some interesting activities.
The Augmented Reality Sandbox - one of very few in the UK – will be on show. The AR sandbox uses colour and interpolated line drawing to model landscape - as on a topographic map. By projecting the contours and hill shade colours onto the sand, there is immediate feedback to changes in shape. Adding the water (or other) surface effect adds further to the experience.
The Trust uses the model as part of its outreach programme visiting schools and events. It has been in the Museum of London, at a music festival, and agricultural exhibition and has been seen on the BBC as part of the Royal Institution Christmas Lecture in 2020.
We will also be showing the techniques we use to monitor the health of our river; with samples taken from the River Wey at Radford Park showing the incredible variety and number of invertebrates which live there. These creatures are important indicators of the health of the river and the quality if the water in it.
The Trust website at riverweytrust.org.uk has more information, and the details of the sandbox are at riverweytrust.org.uk/sarndbox.
