Save Donna's Job at Sainsburys
- anon (24th May 2022 - 21:06:20)
So Sainsburys, has a New Manager! I think he needs to help us
campaign to save the lovely Donna's Job! As after 15 years of loyal
service, Sainsburys has decided to get rid of her! She is a lovely member
of staff, always pleasant and welcoming. Can the people of Liphook show
some appreciation for Donna please?
I know quite a few of our older folk are very fond of Donna, and they may
not 'do' Facebook, so perhaps would prefer to reply on here, instead?

Keep Donna at Sainsburys. She should be valued after
the service she has given.

I agree save Donna’s job, she is a wonderful member of there staff, she is always friendly towards me and always helps me when I need help. I don’t know the full details of why they are letting her go, when I have spoken to someone at Sainsbury about her I was told it’s because she’s been off sick. What is it coming to that you lose your job because of illness.

What is the reason Donna has been dismissed by Sainsbury's? If she has been off ill legitimately then employment law would not allow this?
I would imagine Sainsburys have a stringent and legally compliant human resources department which would have been involved if a long standing staff member was going to lose their job? If not Donna could be in for a big pay day if she has been unfairly dismissed

Is there more than one Donna that has recently been working in Sainsburys?

We do not know the full facts about this and it may not be something as simple as it seems. Even the most generous employer has a limit to the time that they keep a sick employee on the payroll.

I spoke with Donna two days ago and she said the reason for the termination of employment, was due to her taking too many days off sick!
I do not know Sainsbury's side of the matter but Donna is a great team player and fun member of staff.
I do not have Facebook and I do not like using the self service tills. I much prefer to join a queue and converse with a living human being :-)
I have noticed recently that only two "manned" till have been available which is very hard on those of us who prefer to shop that way. Standing up for a long time in a queue is also hard on us with health problems.

This should not be discussed on social media.
Or talkback.
Has the Anonymous person had the young ladies permission to do this? I doubt it!!!!

Donna is collecting hand written notes, from her loyal customers, to show
to Sainsburys Management, in support of her!

This thread and the social media posts are doing nothing to help Donna, in fact the opposite and in employment law could be used by the employer in supporting their disciplinary procedures. Anon’s - you are doing more harm than good! If you really care for Donna, encourage her to take professional advice and follow correct procedures

Totally agree with Daisy and Ian. This matter should not be discussed on social media. No one knows the true facts. Yes Donna has confirmed apparently that she is being dismissed because she has had too much time off sick, but not surprisingly we haven't had any comments from Sainsburys. Employment law is very strict so there has to be a valid reason for dismissal. There are always two sides. The best way to help Donna is for everyone who feels strongly to contact Sainsburys management and tell them of your views.

I absolutely agree with daisy and Ian, everyone commenting on this post I think is making it worse for Donna, I get you are all supporting her, but like Ian said it makes it ten times worse for her these posts could go against her if she fights their decision, Please keep that in mind, just send her some love and support, think of how this could be effecting her.

This is NOT the place to discuss this sort of thing, this could backfire massively and legally on the individual and their position. The large employer am sure has a well oiled law following HR department and if the individual wants to contest it they should be doing so via there own legal channels.
If that person is discussing their employment situation with the customers and gathering support for themselves within the employers own premises and under there noses then that in itself is contributing to reasons for dismissal!
There has been no opportunity here for the employer to defend their own position and they wouldn’t engage in discussing on a forum as they are professional.. so take a hint and stop this

Firstly, I do not know Donna or anyone else at Sainsburys!
However, over the years and especially during the pandemic it was a common thread on here and facebook community how hard pressed, hardworking and dedicated to the community the staff at Sainsburys are. It was acknowledged that there are always staff shortages and often compounded by shoppers frustrated at empty shelves, long checkout queues and many other niggles about the running of the shop.
Surely then if there is a member of the team that is off ill so much that it is to the detriment of the business and their colleagues well being, who would have to cover the extra workload, then at a point the management have to say enough is enough? I used to work for another big corporate supermarket and they had a very thorough sickness support process but it was generally known that long term and persistent absenteeism hurt the business, the other staff and the customers.

Hi,
An employee that needs medical help in their ability to work should be supported by the company.
Unfortunately by all the big supermarkets, that mainly employ part-time staff, do not give the same support as full-time staff i.e. management.
Part-time staff worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic without Furlough payments etc.
Maybe the big stores should appreciate their workers more, not just spending customers...

Not disagreeing with you Paul,,, but your using the word "should" when referring to employer here, its hopeful. This situation isn't "should" its contract and Law.
Can the original poster request this is taken down before its used in evidence against the employee, no one is questioning the hearts and minds at play here but the legal situation for the employee will be quite different if Sainsburys get a hold of it.
Garnering state of employment support from the customers under the roof of your employer to that employers customers whilst painting that employers position to your own end is very bad, they will use this against the employee.
This is doing harm to the image of the company and that will be a line in the contract, if they can prove what's been suggested here your giving them the tools to make it a lot easier to dismiss.

Sam I do not understand what you think is being suggested on here? The person I believe has been told it was for sickness well that is a matter which Sainsburys will have in their own records.

From Sainsburys POV it could be argued that this thread was instigated by Donna anonymously and is bringing the company into disrepute therefore being gross misconduct. Unlikely but not a helpful scenario for Donna.

Helen,
There was a previous post within this that appears to have been since removed so it sort of makes my post look odd, the less that said about it the better i suppose
