No fuel again at Sainsburys.
- paul (15th Apr 2022 - 11:41:25)
Hi,
Today Friday no fuel again at Sainsbury's. This is due to environmental protesters stopping deliveries to forecourts, mainly London and the South.
I am all for democratic rights to free speech, and to objections to current national issues, but this activity is unfair and dangerous.
Apart from motorists wanting to get to work, and other essential journeys. The Police and emergency services, including ambulances, needing to get to A and E for life threatening situations. All need fuel for their vehicles.
Hope the Just Stop Oil mob have a nice Easter bank holiday weekend.

Actually it’s because Sainsburys has smaller tanks than many petrol stations and combined with increased demand as they are one of the cheaper forecourt’s in the area this has caused them to repeatedly sell out

We must protect our community, emergency services have a reserve fuel and can also skip any queue for fuel as stated in the emergency fuel action plan. If you’re driving to work maybe it’s time to start thinking how you’re getting their and if there is better transport to get there rather than polluting our community.
While I do not agree with the way they are protesting and that their are many other ways which are better, I do agree with their cause.
I’d also like to add that it is practically only sainsburys which is running out, Hindhead has plenty.

Hi,
Good comments James.
Yes there other fuel stations locally to fill-up, but they also are suffering with supplies by this protesting action.

Paul, as I said Hindhead petrol stations both have petrol; they haven’t ran out all week.

I thought they kept selling out as it’s the cheapest local fuel so everyone has been flocking there.

Another one of Paul’s so called ‘community information’ posts - basically trying to provoke anxiety and worry. He did it with Covid and was probably one of the original scaremongers that caused the great loo roll crisis of 2020. Just waiting now for the inevitable reply stating just keeping the locals informed out of civic duty

Hi,
Thank you Ian for your sarcastic post. It does not bother me what you think, and shows ignorance of a genuine thread to our Liphook website.
True to form of many here unfortunately, who post negative comments.

I was informed by a supermarket worker that all the big supermarkets got much of their fuel from Russia until the beginning of the war (might explain why their fuel was cheaper and sometimes claimed to be worse!), obviously they can't buy from Russia anymore and are having to switch to other suppliers, without long standing contracts they are currently at the mercy of overstretched market realities and supplies are therefore unpredictable for the moment, making life even tougher for the average struggling motorist, not to mention the eye wateringly expensive cost of filling your tank nowadays (£150 for a tank of diesel at Esso recently, not for pleasure but necessity!).
While I don't dispute current activities of well intentioned fuel protestors/ are adding to the woes, it doesn't seem to be the main or only issue, although I would question the wisdom of their timing because it looks a little as though they're out of touch with normal people, not a good PR move, because these are surely times to all pull together!

Hi,
Good post e.r..I
If only protesters and consumers of needed fuel, could plan together to voice there concerns about the use of fossil fuels, now and the future.

The Extinction protestors are trying to wake people up to the fact that the environment is close to catastrophic ruin if all of us don't play our part. We are willfully ignoring clear scientific evidence that our lifestyle as it is needs to change. We go on expecting to have all our creature comforts regardless of the effect on the environment. If the rising price of petrol, the war in Ukraine , the cost of living crisis etc make us re-assess our lifestyles then that's partially a good thing. We certainly can't go on the way we are now.

Is this the same protesters whom last year caused great disruption to the country's beleagured economy as well as decent, hardworking folk whose only wish was to get to work while also flouting the lockdown laws? Very selfish.
