Mobility Shop up for sale
- LOCAL RESIDENT (26th Feb 2022 - 18:34:29)

See the mobility shop is up for sale with Savills, £70k with permission to build two flats above..seems like a good deal..thinking of putting in an offer will be nice to see something done with it !!!

Hi,
Sounds a good idea for the price and future flat development.
A retail premise below, even with a growing population locally, needs careful consideration to attract a tenant on-going.

Hi,
I think a Nightclub in a central location for village residents would be of use for this unit.
A very smart venue open 7 days per week, cocktail bar, dancing, live music, just what Liphook needs for the future.

Barely big enough for a mini wine bar Paul!

I think it’s a bit tongue in cheek from Paul. Anyway you would be hard pressed to swing a cat in there as the saying goes . But we have a couple of venues in the near future the cinema round the corner and the old countrywide in Newtown going to be a bar and restaurant with a hall for hire should be quite good for Liphook.

Should be another estate agent we need more of those or even better a takeaway with sub par reviews but I don’t know where they would get the out of date decor and 18 year old paint job and tiles to march it up with the others in the village.

Nice deli would go down well in my books now Sainsburys disbanded theirs ……

I think a quality butcher would be a great idea. Liphook used to have good butchers over the years so it would be in keeping with that and depending on the quality of the meat would get a good clientele.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale

Hi,
Nice idea Anon, I remember back in the day when Liphook had more than one independent butchers shops. Sadly nowadays making a profit, paying staff, and running costs, it a hard business to run anywhere.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- R e (2nd Mar 2022 - 19:59:43)

People travel miles for good meat Grayshott, Petersfield, Country market, and further. A good butcher build’s up a very good following so I cannot see why not in Liphook. If any business does the job right and treat’s there customers right then nine times out of ten they succeed. Very hard work but that’s what running your own business is all about but again very rewarding.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- Joe (2nd Mar 2022 - 20:24:56)

There is a reason why the independent butchers and greengrocers closed down, probably the same reason no one wants to invest their money in the area now. There are a lot of good quality on line butchers who deliver. You do not need to travel miles to buy anything now especially with petrol prices going up and up.

Do you have any idea of the costs involved plus all the rules and regulations which are needed to open a butcher's shop? Obviously not!

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- liz (2nd Mar 2022 - 21:12:30)

There are independent butchers in Haslemere, Grayshott and Petersfield - why not in Liphook? I know Grayshott hasn't got a large supermarket but Haslemere and Liphook are not far.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- D (3rd Mar 2022 - 08:44:13)

The last independent butcher in Liphook was the Meat Market at the top of Midhurst Road. They closed because they felt they couldn't compete with Sainsbury's (at least that's what the notice in their window said.) Jeanroy was more of a fishmonger and the butcher the other end of the A3 (premises now occupied by some sort of photographic shop) wasn't very good anyway. The butcher in Lindford closed in recent years as did the poultry and game shop on Greatham. It's nothing unusual. Personally I would rather purchase pre-packed meat in a sealed container rather than meat from a butcher's which has had flies crawling all over it for several days and the butcher's dog sniffing it.

- Anon (3rd Mar 2022 - 10:49:24)

I would expect 70k to be an auction guide price so it’ll probably sell for a fair bit more unless I’m mistaken. Flattened and block of flats would be my guess, as much as it would be nice to have a nightclub, butchers or estate agent. Sport shop would have been good!

Anon, it used to be sports shop years ago. I missed it when it closed.

I know , I was being ironic! I was a regular customer, I miss it too

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- Re (3rd Mar 2022 - 12:35:08)

Used to be a chemist to. As for being a butcher all business have a massive start up cost’s and regulations hoops to jump through. And D Jeanroys was a very good butcher’s and the meat from good butcher’s beats supermarkets hands down. If you go to any of the butcher’s around here country market Grayshott Petersfield Bells at Haslemere you will find large queue’s at busy time’s. So this must be a good omen to start a new one. If there is a young butcher’out there wanting to get on in life I would think it would be a good opportunity especially as they say there is a possibility of a flat above.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- D (3rd Mar 2022 - 13:01:59)

I didn't criticise Jeanroy's, I criticized the one further up the A3.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- Re (3rd Mar 2022 - 14:25:07)

Yes I no you didn’t criticise Jeanroys but it was a very good butcher’s very good advice on cuts of meat and exceptional quality. Fish side run by Jack Blank Canadian. The butcher’s on London road was smarts if you look on the header board it’s called Aberdeen House because he only used Aberdeen Angus beef very good meat. It’s now called PRC Digital.Harris Butcher’s station road meat and fish shop . Tomy Thorners where the fish are chip shop is Headley road another good butcher’s. The size of liphook now there is an opening for go ahead people to start up business.

I didn't know Jack was involved with it, to me he was always the candy king, he was really good with us kids, nice man. Learn something new each day. Thankyou.

Who remembers Mr. Jeanroy appearing on BBC Pebble Mill at One? Makes him one of the earliest T.V. (television) chefs. Way before all these airy fairy so-called chefs today. Same era as Fanny Craddock.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- paul (3rd Mar 2022 - 16:33:26)

Hi D,
Yes I remember Mr Jeanroy on TV.
At the local shop he served fresh fish, and remember as a boy a large Swordfish on a wall display. The then celebrity had a heavy French accent, which was novel for the time.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- ian (3rd Mar 2022 - 16:55:20)

Fanny Craddock was appalling; thank goodness we have moved on.

btw wouldn't call Gordon Ramsey or the Hairy Bikers airy fairy!

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- D (3rd Mar 2022 - 18:08:06)

They repeated her series recently. Simple, easy, no frills cooking and she never tried to make it look difficult. Always very encouraging. I loved Johnny and Fanny.

Re: Mobility Shop up for sale
- D (3rd Mar 2022 - 18:18:29)

Paul, I remember the swordfish, there were blue tiles on the shop front and I think it was a flat roofed building. Was he really French? One of my past governors used to drive his delivery van donkeys' years ago. They were Liphook's best days.

- Nicky (4th Mar 2022 - 16:51:16)

Anon do you have any idea as to the plans for the shop? You
obviously have inside knowledge 😊
