Roads/Transport Forum meeting tomorrow
- Freddie Dawkins (11th Jun 2003 - 10:08:24)

Dear All -

Especially following last weekend's almost tragic events in Midhurst Road, you might like to come along to the Highways and Transport Parish Council Forum tomorrow evening (8pm) at the Parish Office, Haskell Centre, top of Midhurst Road.

Cllr Freddie Dawkins

What happened on the week end of the 8th June? I use to live in an estate on the old Midhurst Road until a year or so ago. I didn't see anything in the local press at least I don't think I did.

That road is a complete an utter nightmare, so are the youngsters that loiter on it and drive dangerously on it. These were the main reasons why I left my home there and moved out of the centre. Liphook has become a horrible village since the Sainsburys development went in. It's been ruined, very sad.

Steve -

As Mark has rejigged Talkback over the weekend, I think one or two messages may have gone astray, or were backed up somewhere in the system.

Anyway, the young man driving the car which turned over, has been to see the police and I understand he may be prosecuted.

Residents of Midhurst Road have tried for years to get something done about the speeding drivers, especially over the railway bridge and past Triggs Cottages.

Hampshire County Council, who are actually in control of all highways work, were working on a scheme to try and calm traffic. That appears to hev been fast-tracked after the sumersaulting car, pressure by residents and the Transport Committee of the Parish Council.

There's a plan in the Parish Office, which Ann Haussauer (Assistant Clerk) will happily show you. Basically, more signs, more white lines and other new road markings.

I hope they discourage speeding and more responsible driving - but I fear that unless we do more, there will continue to be crashes outside Triggs Cottages.

*removed* (you'll see her mesages in other threads) has put in a lot of work and time, logging incidents which are not normally reported to the police. We all need to keep up the pressure and make drivers realise that Liphook is not a Grand Prix circuit.

Freddie Dawkins
Parish Councillor
