BBC Food Factory
- Jodie Adams (17th Aug 2011 - 14:11:09)
I'm emailing from the BBC, and I'm currently working on a show called Food Factory (formerly Jimmy's Food Factory), which aims to demonstrate the amazing science and technology behind supermarket foods.
We are coming to the area at the end of August to do some filming, and are looking for audience members to take part, which will involve chatting to our presenter about certain foods, and joining in some experiments to demonstrate how they're made.
I'm currently trying to get the word out to clubs and societies in the area. The filming is taking place on the mornings of Wednesday 31st August and Thursday 1st September in Compton, near Guildford, and if you could pass the word on that would be fantastic - we would be delighted to have any Liphook residents along for the filming. Also please feel free to pass the info on to family and friends, the more the merrier!
If interested, or for more info, please feel free to contact me on jodie.adams@bbc.co.uk.
Thanks very much for your help,
Best wishes,
Jodie

No replies yet Jodie?
I'm aftraid I don't agree with the 'amazing science and technology' you're obviously promoting. The prepackaged foods and meals are the value-added items which boost supermarket profits. With so many available it adds to the growing number of people who have no idea how to cook a meal from scratch OR what is actually meant by a healthy diet. That's one of the reasons the population is heading towards obesity! However I am sure there is going to be some smug comments about the healthy contents of these items just to dupe the less informed.

I've replied but she's out of the office until Monday!
If you'd watched the show you'd know that it teaches you about what goes into processed foods and how the companies do it.
Well informed = educated decisions.
It also helps that Jimmy is eye candy! Shame he's not doing this series.

How rude do people have to KEEP being on this site!?!
Rosie - Maybe there were no replies when you posted your 'nasty' but people may well have contacted Jodie directly via her contact details.
As Susie asks - HAVE you ever watched the show?
I agree, it shows what goes into food and does show technology - you decide if good or bad or if you change your food shopping habits from what you learn. The chewing gum episode showed my family it wasn't all they thought!!
Fab program and I'm sure Stefan Gates will be brillaint.

I did not read Rosies post as nasty, processed foods have been proved to be bad for our health, hence scotland and deep fried pizza, mars bars= worst health statistics in Europe. Simple healthy italian diet, fresh tomatoes, olive oil, fresh fish,=healthiest diet in Europe. Even on cost alone they are not good.

Thank you Helen. My comments may have been cynical and perhaps a tad grumpy (bit of an off day) I didn't think they were rude or nasty. My background is in science and technology including research, experiments, thesis and work so I feel I am able to make 'educated decisions' from a much broader base. On a daily basis I deal with children and parents who have no idea about healthy eating and rely a lot on processed foods. I would dearly love to see Home Economics, Domestic Science, Cookery (call it what you like) brought into school curriculum as compulsory. Science and technology is 'amazing' but it's not the answer to everything. I hope those who put their names forward for the programme have their day and enjoy themselves.

I have seen the program and it is excellent for those interested in how 'processed food' is prepared. It doesn't take a view on whether they are 'good' or 'bad' but having seen the piece on diet mayonnaise I don't think I could ever eat it again - so back to the eggs and the oil but not sure of that is 'good' or 'bad' either!
