Helicoptors in the night
- Mairead (17th Aug 2011 - 12:00:30)

We've just moved into Liphook and really love the peace and quiet. But the last two nights have been disturbed by low flying helicoptors (not sure how many) at about 11.30 ish - it's gone on for quite some time. Given the alarm goes off at 5am we're not too enamoured by this. Is it normal? what's going on?

We're near the Bohunt end of the village.

Thanks

Hi,
Don't know if you noticed before you moved here but we have an army training camp just up the road at Longmoor.
The Chinook helicopters train out of there fairly often and at strange hours. We live up at Griggs Green and have them flying very low over the houses to the point where I felt the vibrations through my computer keyboard while working last night!
Problem is they have to train therefore we have to tolerate it and you do get used to it - a bit. But saying that, most nights its quiet.
Hope you settle in ok.

Welcome to Liphook we do have a major army training camp at longmoor, and they do have to use Helicopters on exercises some times at night. But on the bright side there are somr great walks and countryside that when the army are not using them are a great recreational area.

The army are only moving out of Bordon (REME) This move wont affect LDTA (Longmoor District Training Area). They will still have night exercises with gun fire & helicopters. All 3 live firing ranges will still be in use.

Agreed but as they are moving from Bordon I assume the frequency of these training exercises will possibly maybe decrease....hopefully
