Sign to say "no buying or selling" at door? - Jay (16th Aug 2011 - 20:33:46)
Anyone know where I can get one of those stickers to say that we don't buy or sell at our front door?
Last night dinner was interrupted by Cancer Research campaigners wanting us to complete a bank mandate for a monthly donation and this lunchtime it was a deaf charity.
Nothing against the charities but I do not like being interrupted at home and prefer to make my own mind up in my own time with regard to charitable donations.

Hi Jay, I think you can get them from the council... Although I have to say that I have one (courtesy of my sis in law) and STILL get charities knocking on the door!! (although not as many as previously) I'd phone EHDC and check that they do them before going down there though, 01730 266551
Good luck!
Helen :)

I got mine in the hut in the car park on Midhurst road, although I still get the door bell rung and when I ask them why they can't read my sign they say they aren't selling!

You could make your own sign, I knew a lady that printed her own and laminated it, also they sell plastic and metal ones on eBay and you can have whatever you want printed on it. You could then write no charities no cold calling no religious groups etc etc.

I had the Cancer research people knock my door 2 nights ago. Upon opening the door i said I wasnt interested thank you. He asked me why. I said I am just not interested. I proceeded to close the door when the young man said but we are trying to help (I interupted and said). sorry I am not interested. He then asked why again and I said because you will want me to give a donantion and I don't have the money. Only then did he leave. Don't get me wrong he wasn't rude but like the previous post I like to make decisions in my own time. If ever I agree and sign the forms on the doorstep because I feel pressured I always cancel the next day anyway so it just wastes my time and theirs.

If you go onto moneysavingexpert.com and type in the search bar 'No Cold Callers' there is a sign to print.
The site will also give you basic rights advise and how to stop junk mail, phone calls etc.
Hope this helps.

We have had two lots of young people knock the door last week it was for Battersea Dogs Home- this week for Cancer Research. We noticed that some of the callers were the same ones but wearing different tops or sashes so guess they are being employed and paid to do the house calls. We support some of the Charities but do not need people to keep knocking our door asking us to set up standing orders for donations. We do have a notice on the door but it seems to make no difference they still knock.

Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions - the moneysavingexpert site was a great idea - lots of good suggestions and the stickers too of course!
Don't begrudge anyone trying to earn a liv ing or doing things for charity so I don't want to be rude when they knock my door but just wish they wouldn't! Let's hope the sign makes them think twice - at least the site says the energy company reps have to obey it!
