With thanks to the Parish Plan we are holding a meeting to discuss the project at the Millenium Hall on Tuesday 23rd of August at 19:00h. The meeting will be held in the Canada Room.
Please spread the word to our teens and adults.

This is very positive and as many people both parents and youngsters (and anyone else who is POSITIVE) should come along.
We need the owners of the Bohunt Manor football pitch to come along so that we can discuss the youth club and skate park forming part of their scheme- does anyone have a contact at IML for this ?
LIZ maybe any fund raising we do could subsidise the football club if you think that there is a funding shortfall.
WHAT ABOUT LOTTERY FUNDING FOR ALL THIS ?
Does anyone know how we could go about getting Lottery funding as surely this is just the sort of worthwhile scheme that the Lottery was set up for ?
Has Lottery funding EVER been used in Liphook ?
Could we buy land at Bohunt Manor for this?
Lots of questions but this whole proposal is soooooo refreshingly positive in these depressing times - we CAN make this happen!!!!!!!!!!
Well done John and I just hope we can get some momentum here

Mike
The land for the football pitch does not belong to IML it belongs to a development company based in Litchenstein called Gerriwell Management who someone told me have changed their name to 'Green Village' investments. They have tried every manoeuver in the book to get the whole Bohunt Manor site developed and somewhere there is a scheme for mixed use industrial and housing development for the whole area and a road through from near the old 'A3'/station road junction across the estate to Longmoor Road. - So unless you want the whole of the Bohunt Estate developed I would be very careful what you ask for.
Other than that I wish everyone the best of luck for the new skatepark etc. Wouldn't it make more sense to refurbish the old one - is there room for a youthclub building there as well?

if there is going to be a new clubhouse on the bohunt manor site, what will happen to the old one in the rec could that not be used as the youth club.

LIZ
Thanks for looking into this but please do not come up with reasons why not (NEGATIVE) - just focus on why it could happen (BE POSITIVE) - thats how things happen!!!
Liz will you (and others please) help us?
Do you have a contact for the owners of Bohunt Manor and would you mind asking them about the land - if they could make it available? You never know, if you don t ask your not going to get anything.
The skate park as John has pointed out just isnt adequate for the village and we need a youth club venue as well.
Does anyone out there know about Lottery funding

As eb has said , could not the old cricket pavilion at the rec be used,or is this still used for football?. Cricket is not played there any more. This is quite central to most kids, and the area is used already by the young right up to older kids. The play area for the young , a skate park and youth club would be ideal here. The tennis courts could be used, and not just used by the club . The pavilion is a reasonable distance from most houses, so as not to be too much of a problem. Discos could be held there. This whole area could be revamped to create an area for the kids. We have Radford Park for walking so I think this area would be ideal.

This information is on the Herald web site regarding Bohunt Manor land.
"Property consultants GL Hearn wrote to the parish council’s planning committee on behalf of land owners Green Village Investments, offering to discuss what else land on the estate could be used for, for the community’s benefit"
This was dated July 2011 and asks for community involvement.
Seems relevant to your cause.

A Ryan
The clubhouse is still used by the football club but if they are relocating to bohunt manor, what will happen to it then, perfect for a youth club.

I will be away on holiday, but will look forward to meeting you all.
The location is always going to be problematic as the NIMBYs don't like it. I was wondering whether Bohunt would be a better place as they have a lot of land and are more 'youth' orientated.
I agree that what is in the village is awful. My son is a BMXer and travels everywhere to use the facilities of other villages. Liphook is not fit for purpose i'm afraid. Perhaps there was a lack of dialogue with the potential users of the site when it was being designed? - who knows? but there you are.
It would be very nice for the younger generation to be able to use facilities like this in their own village and would also save on train fares to Petersfield all the time.
I fully support what you are proposing, but please be aware of the likely timescales and hurdles. Even where the public are fully behind projects (like the allotments etc) we still have not been able to purchase the land or reach any agreement.
Everyone has their hopes raised that it will happen very soon and yet the Parish Council don't have the money or the land yet.
I will try to be positive but you must not get your hopes up for a quick result. It will take a long time.

Mike
I wasn\'t being negative, just making you aware of the situation - which has been well covered on this site for many years. It is not NIMBYism, its just that some people (well the majority of people I speak to anyway) would like the Bohunt Manor estate to remain as a green open space on our gateway to the National Park. Remember the original owners left the estate to the World Wildlife fund in the hope that the estate and its wetlands could be preserved. We want to attract tourists to the area, well that is not likely to happen if Liphook becomes yet another suburban sprawl.
You may think that housing and industrial estates across the entire Bohunt Manor estate plus a new road is a good thing which is fair enough.Personally I wouldn\'t ask these developers for anything. They have no interest in Liphook or its residents - they will just do everything they can to get the site developed. My views on this do not mean I'm against the skatepark/youthclub at all. Quite the opposite. But it seems we already have one site in the centre of the village so it would make sense to utilise that if at all possible.

John, Mike, take heed of liz's scepticism. Regarding potential purchase/lease/loan of land at Bohunt you would not be dealing with the nice people of IML, but a front company belonging to Mr Brian Cox (possibly with others).
Now, I'm not suggesting that B. Cox is the Anti-Christ, but he sure is not the type of fellow to concern himself with your aspirations for the well being of our fledgling youth. His motivation is profit. He knows the potential return he will get from his investment in Bohunt and would settle for nothing less.
And before you accuse me of being negative, refer back to previous postings on this site regarding Mr Cox, Bohunt, tree planting and wetlands trust

Re: NEW SKATEPARK + YOUTHCLUB MEETING
- John Garcia (16th Aug 2011 - 13:51:34)
My original idea was to scrap the old skatepark and use that bit of land to build the youth club, and the grass next to it to build a bigger, better, covered skatepark.
Maybe this project is too big, so i guess using the old youth club in Radford park is a good idea, and just refurbishing the skate park (giving it a roof as well).

Maybe we do need an investor - not Mr Cox perhaps - but someone else who wants to make a profit? If our youth have to travel to other skate parks, why would others not travel to Liphook if we had a better one and pay a small entrance fee? Maybe they could make it undercover in a warehouse or similar to keep the neighbours happy. I imagine it's a different planning use to "industrial"or whatever it was that was planned for the rest of the OSU site.
I believe the skate park in Southsea charges £2 for a 3 hour session (or similar). So not an amount that would put it beyond the reach of most youngsters. They hire out the helmets (compulsory) and make a charge for spectators. They also sell food and drink and used to have a shop with related equipment.
Has always been busy with skateboarders, scooters, BMXers etc when we've been there (I appreciate it is in a more densely populated place).
Anyone fancy an investment? Or perhaps the Southsea owners fancy branching out to the north?

Hi everybody,
Just to let you know I have spoken to the guys at Evolution Skateparks and they have seen the state of the current Skatepark. They have sent me some plans to have an idea of the costs which could be anything from £36000 to £130000.
I will print them off and show them at the meeting.
Also, I think the roof and fencing would have to be seperate, as I think keeping the skatepark locked at night would be needed to keep the equipment safe from vandals.
What does everybody think?

Re: NEW SKATEPARK + YOUTHCLUB MEETING
- Anon & Youth (17th Aug 2011 - 17:03:45)
We have moved over from the other thread in which some of you may already know us.
Currently Anon & Youth are in the same room, here to give you our views.
Today we both went to the council to discuss a little project.
The council seem to be well behind us and are willing to help us with this project; which we've decided that if any profit is made we could perhaps donate towards this plan. Although keeping in mind we are using the profit for "Other" charities.
If you'd like we both may be able to attend the meeting on the 23rd and offer our input. Anon is very prominent on coming.
We also thought that refurbishing the old skate park or demolishing the old skate park in turn for a new/Extended & upgraded skate park would be a great idea.
Also using the land which is there to build a youth club would be an added bonus, the youth club could look after the skate park as well.
Inside the youth club all that we think would be great is perhaps a small bar [Obviously selling non-alcoholic drinks],
as well as a pool table, perhaps even organise small concerts for the younger generation. It could be fairly similar to how the Alton community centre is used.
See you SOON! ;]
