Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (24th Sep 2021 - 19:26:56)

Hi,
Seen some big queues today, are they running out?

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Pete (24th Sep 2021 - 21:22:26)

Queues still there this evening, this is panic buying and not the station running out, but it will run out due to panic.

Welcome to the sun lit uplands everyone :)

We are puppets with journalists pulling the strings.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (25th Sep 2021 - 09:14:08)

Hi,
Saturday morning 9am Sainsburys Liphook around 50 vehicles queuing for fuel. The staff say there is no shortage of fuel (had a tanker delivery yesterday), but if drivers buy more than normal, there could be a problem in the near future.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Paul (25th Sep 2021 - 11:39:03)

Sainburys have ran out of Diesel, signs all over the forecourt!

Imagine watching all this on the news from any other country and wondering how all this happened to the UK? I know people in New Zealand that live in the hills and they all are aghast at how far and fast the UK is falling apart, they all put it down to the very same B word.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- er (25th Sep 2021 - 12:34:15)

Despite the blame apportioning for these recent fuel fiascos (I blame government and international geo-politics!), some people will desperately need fuel for work or medical appts etc, so may be more helpful to stop blaming motorists per se and actually post if we know of somewhere that currently has fuel!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul earwicker (25th Sep 2021 - 13:55:48)

Hi,
This is a "Toilet Roll" moment from previous lock-downs. People buy extra amounts "just in-case".

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- John (25th Sep 2021 - 14:04:47)

Not sure how anyone or anything outside of this country let alone international geo whatever has anything to do with the lack of lorry drivers. No one in Europe has sat around conspiring to cause a shortage of lorry drivers on that UK, responsibility for this mess lays firmly and 100% within our own borders.

“They need us more than we need them” is completely untrue, they are quite happy to return to the EU and work over there, now we will have to pay them double to return and many of them just can’t be bothered with that UK now, all made to feel unwelcome so they have thought better of it and said ok… bye bye.

I need to check my car manual to see if I can run it on all the extra “sovereignty” or indeed the vast amounts of “control” we took back. It’s going to be one thing after another for us now, for years and years. A massive national backwards step lead by idiots

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Lyndon (25th Sep 2021 - 15:10:50)

John, why are you moaning???? you can have a blue passport now and if we are really lucky we can go back to using imperial weights and measures as well. We're a blessed nation thank you Mr Farage

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Helen (25th Sep 2021 - 15:17:24)

If cars are queuing back to road how do the Sainsburys main shop customers get in ? Is it really this bad still today ? Hoping to shop later today will go elsewhere if Midhurst Rd is all congested

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Dave (25th Sep 2021 - 15:25:29)

They’ve just had a delivery and dropped the price of diesel too, amazing!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (25th Sep 2021 - 15:33:42)

Hi,
We have always had migrant labour in Britain why stop now? The 19th century had people from the colonies working here. More recent times the Irish construction business labours, West Indian public transport in London, and Eastern Europeans of all types of jobs. Our own labour force is not trained, or ready, to take-over these job roles after foreign workers left because of Covid pandemic, and Brexit rules to returning to U.K. for employment.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- passfield resident (25th Sep 2021 - 16:15:06)

Great post John-couldn't have put it better. We thought we didn't need foreigners coming and taking our jobs but now we realise we did need them after all.Unfortunately ukip's moronic view won out and we were turkeys voting for Christmas, except that we may not get Christmas as we would like it unless the government can pull off another big u-turn.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Paul (25th Sep 2021 - 16:21:19)

Mr Farage most likely not living in uk sunning himself on beach
Cannot see him driving lorry’s can you it’s only going to get worse when we have to do customs check coming into uk messed that already more delays

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (25th Sep 2021 - 16:29:44)

Hi,
All quiet now to fill-up on petrol at Sainsburys Liphook.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul earwicker (25th Sep 2021 - 18:32:40)

Hi,
Sainsburys staff did a sterling job organizing the vehicles for fuel inline today, well done. Some were offered gifts from customers for their hard work all day.
Shows community spirit in difficult times to us all.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- B (25th Sep 2021 - 21:27:38)

I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

All it takes is for the media to start talking about "possible" fuel shortages and sheepeople loose their minds, and when the government who couldn't be trusted to run a tap tell you not to panic buy then it's a perfect storm. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Lets be realistic, there is plenty of fuel, we aren't going to run out. What we do have is a shortage of drivers to deliver it so your local forecourt may not get as many deliveries as normal, that doesn't mean we have a shortage.

If you were one of the people in the queue for fuel at Sainsbury's, you're part of the problem.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Pea (26th Sep 2021 - 07:33:44)

Welcome to human nature. It doesn't help to call people idiots and stupid, you think they'll stop because of comments like that?

It's just what us people do, get over it.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (26th Sep 2021 - 11:11:03)

Hi,
Sainsburys Liphook Sunday no fuel of any type and closed.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (26th Sep 2021 - 11:54:14)

Hi,
Shell fuel station Southbound on the bypass has fuel, and taken a delivery today Sunday.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Caroline (27th Sep 2021 - 10:59:45)

Madness prevails. Been to 5 places this morning around Liphook and Haslemere - nowhere has fuel.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (27th Sep 2021 - 11:13:09)

Hi,
Fuelled up at Shell northbound on the bypass. A 20 minute wait to get to the pumps at 10.30am this Monday.
No fuel at southbound station.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- John (27th Sep 2021 - 20:18:43)

Fuel lorry currently filling up the station in Haslemere, about 40 cars parked in a line on the pavement waiting to fuel up.

Government claims this is Covid, rest of Europe all had Covid and they have no issues fuelling their cars

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Mike Stevenson (27th Sep 2021 - 20:26:27)

Hi all

Am trying to get diesel or unleaded for the other half’s car any ideas locally ?

Happy for her to drive my car if needed but want to check

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (28th Sep 2021 - 08:49:32)

Hi Mike,
Try Shell North and South bound on the by pass at Liphook.
You could call them to check on availability of fuels. South 727098 and North 724169.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Wendy (28th Sep 2021 - 11:23:43)

When Sainsbury’s Petrol Station gets a delivery of fuel within the next couple of days I reckon it should be RATIONED and NO Jerrycans.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Simon (28th Sep 2021 - 12:27:52)

Mike, managed to get diesel at 9pm last night at Liphook Services North, about 20 minute queue

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Hm (28th Sep 2021 - 12:45:52)

No Jerrycans Wendy?
Do you have any suggestions as to how my husband is to put diesel in his van ? Currently sat on our drive having run out of fuel at the top of the road!
People need to stop judging other people. Most people with cans now are helping people out who have run out of fuel!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Penny Williamson (28th Sep 2021 - 12:52:48)

Wendy, that is all very well saying no jerry cans. A friend of mine was filling up a couple of cans because her husband's car at home had run out of fuel. She was abused at the pumps for this and that is completely unacceptable as is the greedy selfish behaviour of so many at the moment. There would be NO PROBLEM if people behaved as they normally do. Toilet rolls spring to mind.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- John (28th Sep 2021 - 13:24:51)

Let’s sort out this classic conservative tactics of blaming the people. Saying things like there is plenty of fuel, yes there is plenty of fuel but no one can rock up to the refinery.

Also they blame the media for reporting it, what is the media supposed to do, not tell a true story, it’s not North Korea here.

Also not everyone buying fuel is a panic buyer, most of them need the fuel to go to work etc.

The key blame in this whole affair is the governments failure to sort the lorry drivers issue out, yes the pandemic played a part but the core failing was to get rid of foreign drivers at a time when there already wasn’t enough lorry drivers. This is a failure by our elected politicians to address a known problem and then make it worse by removing those foreign drivers.

It’s not the medias fault, and it’s not the panick buyers fault that caused this. It’s 1. We are unable to handle demand for anything that needs delivered around the country now, supply chains are falling apart and 2. This is the fault of this government to prepare and failure to RUN the country effectively… that’s it

Everything else your told is DISTRACTION tactics employed by this government.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Jake (28th Sep 2021 - 13:49:59)

No doubt some of the jerry can fillers are doing so for a perfectly legitimate reason, but probably not all. Yes it is the toilet syndrome again ( PBPs)
I hoped in vain that the fuel problem may have eased the traffic congestion in the square by deterring parents who live in Liphook from driving there kids to school. A very vain hope.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- dennis c slark (28th Sep 2021 - 14:17:45)

No petrol or diesel at sainsbury Garage closed. No strawberries or raspberries either

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- D (28th Sep 2021 - 14:33:02)

John, had the media not reported this, the panic buying would not have happened. This is a repeat of what happened twenty years ago under a Labour government. Wasn't their fault neither, it's ours.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- John (28th Sep 2021 - 14:39:29)

I have just filled my car at Shell Bordon - plenty of fuel ,no restrictions.
No diesel ,but petrol at Tesco's petrol station. Good luck to all;

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Paul (28th Sep 2021 - 16:54:59)

@Jake - if you are seeing drivers dropping their children to school during a fuel crisis, then perhaps those people had no choice but to drive due to distance or maybe disability?

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- paul (28th Sep 2021 - 17:55:44)

Hi,
Seems to be a frenzy by society of those that should fill-up or not.
As we all live in a rural area with little public transport, it is not an option to use a vehicle or not. Going to work, visiting elderly relative's, school runs, and healthcare workers in hospitals is essential for our daily lives.
It is easy to blame others than ourselves, but we humans can be kind to each other in a crisis.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Birdseed (29th Sep 2021 - 06:17:07)

I've followed the Government's advice and not panic bought fuel but now don't have fuel for work on 30th and am a key worker. Does anybody know where there is currently still fuel in the vicinity of Midhurst/Liphook/Petersfield?

Day off today and can't say I find the idea of wasting half of it trying to buy fuel terribly enticing!!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Lyndon (29th Sep 2021 - 08:48:54)

For goodness sake Birdseed, did you just follow government advice without feeling the need to engage the grey matter and consider how relevant it is to your own personal circumstances. I'm not a fan of Boris but do consider government advice is given to the masses (who as usual have shown by recent events to be utterly thick) it is not a bespoke personal advice centre so if their general advice is at odds with your personal circumstances then it is up to you to work out the best course of action for yourself. More people need to take personal responsibility, stop believing everything they read on the news and social media websites and stop blaming others. BTW, The Telegraph published yesterday a list of items that the country will run short of in the build up to Christmas.....watch out for the next round of panic buying!!!!!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Anon (29th Sep 2021 - 09:31:37)

Or we could just be sympathetic to Birdseed and be kind....

Hope you find fuel Birdseed.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Brad (29th Sep 2021 - 09:55:27)

Unfortunately it's classic game theory in action:

If we all cooperate we all get a little bit of fuel (the best possible reward from an overall perspective)

If we act selfishly and everyone else cooperates we get a lot of fuel and others get less

If we all act selfishly none of us get any fuel (the worst outcome from an overall perspective)

The best reward is if we all cooperate, but if people start acting selfishly it becomes rational to act selfishly and thus we end up with an irrational outcome.

At this point throwing blame or insults around helps no one, we should all try to help each other. We can't necessarily magic fuel up, but we can car share with neighbours for school runs etc...

As a random crazy idea, I did wonder if petrol stations should impose a minimum limit as well as a maximum, so that if you're going to go and just top up £5 you're going to pay the £25 minimum anyway and may think twice about whether you really need to get that small amount of fuel. This would obviously be problematic to those who genuinely need to fill jerry cans to get an fully empty car going but that's likely a minority of people anyway.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Jake (29th Sep 2021 - 10:14:03)

Paul,
If the school kids who arrive by train can walk from the station to school surely able bodied kids resident in Liphook can. It was Liphook residents who drive their kids to school I was referring to.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Penny Williamson (29th Sep 2021 - 10:59:54)

John I disagree with your comments that panic buying has not caused the shortages and queues. Panic buying is exactly what has caused this crisis. D’s post is absolutely right. Interestingly a lady was filmed emptying water bottles at a petrol station and filling them with fuel. Says it all really – and yesterday Waitrose in Alton had sold out of toilet rolls. OMG!!!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Lrr (29th Sep 2021 - 11:18:13)

No fuel at Griggs Green A3 south bound

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Gail E (29th Sep 2021 - 12:57:56)

I believe that Sainsbury's has now run out of fuel? Both petrol and diesel. Is this correct? as we live outside the village I am reluctant to just "check" so wondering if anyone has any information at all.
I tried phoning but they are not answering.

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?

Tanker there this morning

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?

Nothing at Sainsburys closed

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?

Sainsbury's no fuel. Garage closed

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Lyndon (29th Sep 2021 - 14:06:55)

Sainsburys obviously had a delivery, carnage in the Square

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Paul (29th Sep 2021 - 14:59:47)

Absolute carnage around Sainsbury’s, stay well away if you don’t need to go there.

Was walking down by the queue at the train station (yes, that far back) and asked by a motorist if he was on the correct queue. Turns out he’s from out of area, followed other motorists who were following the tanker ……

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Ian (29th Sep 2021 - 18:36:53)

Jeez, Paul! Nothing like stoking the anger! I happened to be walking along the Midhurst Road when the fuel tanker arrived, I can tell you there wasn’t a queue of vehicles following it. It’s stupid posts like yours spreading misinformation that get people uptight!!!

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Paul (29th Sep 2021 - 20:43:06)

@Ian - nonsense, get a grip man. I never said anything about anyone being angry, I simply pointed out that 'at that time' a motorist himself said he came from out of area ...

Re: Car fuel available around Liphook?
- Pat (29th Sep 2021 - 21:46:47)

Cars backed up from Sainburys all they way down midhurst road right back to the roundabout beside the chemist, ie you cant even get onto the midhurst road at all.
Surely the panic buyers (if they even exist) had filled up over the last few days and this lot aren’t panic buyers at all.
Don’t try and tell me someone can be both a panic buyer AND use a full tank in 2-3 days! Anyone whom uses that much fuel can’t be panic buying.

Sun lit uplands guys, everything is much better now
