Calling local WWII buffs

Calling local WWII buffs

The shocking yet fascinating war stories of the grandparents of a Liphook resident add another rare dimension to Liphook’s living history. Perplexingly the testimonies were turned down by our local magazine and Heritage Centre because the grandparents were not Liphook residents…

They are available free via email or on this forum should the Moderator allow.

May I suggest that you send these details to the Imperial War Museum in London who have a huge archive which can be accessed by the general public.

Yes, I agree that the Imperial War Museum is very likely to be interested when times return to normal - see iwm.org.uk/collections/managing/offer-material

My father wrote a memoir of his experiences as a child in the second world war and they were keen to have a PDF copy for their archive. I also have a friend who wrote of her early life, born in this country but evacuated at the age of two to the USA; the IWM also took this.

Please contact the Liphook Heritage Centre with your information. Our new opening details are on our website which you can easily access from the link on the left

I'm surprised that this valuable offering was refused and the reason for doing so. I seem to remember seeing the Seven Stars Inn sign in the Heritage Centre, and THAT didn't originate from Liphook.

Hi Wica

Please send me the stories to editor@liphook.uk

I’ll then link them to this thread.

Correction, Seven THORNS. Oops!

Just to clarify that the old Seven Thorns sign stored at the Heritage Centre is very applicable because the pub was located in the Parish.
The pub has been demolished and the new BMW showrooms now occupy the site.

I for one am quite happy to trust the editorial and content decisions made by the parish magazine and heritage centre. Unfortunately we are as a society plagued with individuals who have an over-developed sense of entitlement and use forums like this to bitch and moan when someone doesn’t give them what they want or agree with them

I have taken the 3 files provided, converted them to PDF's and uploaded to the liphook.uk website.

They are interesting but obviously have no relevance to Liphook, unfortunately, so I can understand the reluctance for them to be stored in local archives or printed in the local community magazine.

My mother was in liphook during the 2nd World War, and still here to this day.
