Where is Haslemere ?
- Alan (29th Jul 2011 - 19:33:20)

So there we were thinking Liphook would be quieter with the tunnel open.

But there are no signs southbound pointing to Haslemere, and of course satnav's won't yet know about the tunnel and hence the missing turn at Hindhead.

So it would appear that all traffic for Haslemere will now pass through Liphook. Would someone else please do an A3 run to confirm if I'm right.

Alan

Haslemere has been signposted for many years from the junction at Milford, ie. via the A286. Why does the tunnel change this, as going via Hindhead is longer for Haslemere town (but possibly not for the south side)

Oh right. I always assumed people went to Hindhead and turned there. My mistake.

There are no signs for Haslemere as you head North either. At least none that I spotted on our little Liphook - Thursley - Liphook test trip this evening.

Big lorries were never able to turn left at Hindhead not enough room to swing round Can they access Haslemere at Hazel Grove?

If you look at past postings, I mentioned this previously; before the tunnel opened. Note previous blogs. Anyone going Northbound from Portsmouth are being directed via Junction East through Liphook.

That is madness, isn't it. They ought to be sent off from existing Hindhead crossroads. Surely they have enough room now the London traffic isn't thundering through - they won't need a refuge for right turning traffic any more.
