Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Adam Beckley (1st Jul 2021 - 14:27:12)

As a result of an incident recently the landlord has now imposed an over 25's policy for the pub. This will not apply to families who wish to dine.

Of course, because all under 25s are thugs. How to make friends in the village. I have two under 25s and I certainly won't be bringing them to dine in your pub.

Fairly common in many places, quite understandable

- Rob (1st Jul 2021 - 19:13:23)

This is a sore subject, I agree that alot of under 25s are unable to handle their drink, but I think it's the 18 to 21 Yr olds that have the problem. Surely just bar the idiots. Involved in the fight, not all under 25s are trouble makers. If you start imposing this over 25s only, your pub will lose alot of customers, just a thought.

People need to stop telling other people how to run their business, it's their licence, I don't know what occurred at all or who involved, so I'm guessing, but in my experience young people aren't getting better especially out of the cities, by and large parenting and discipline gone out the window in our demographics, I read white boys make up less than 10% of university entrants in UK, white girls are double that and among Asians it's 60% go to university, go figure, if the man won't let under 25s from the area drink in his pub, I would imagine it was not a decision he wished to make lightly!!

Just a heads up. Your policy is illegal under the equality act 2010.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- N (1st Jul 2021 - 21:24:19)

Pubs & clubs can set their own age entry requirements under the terms of their licence.
More & more pubs are banning under 25s. It is NOT age discrimination .
Fact.

- Paul Earwicker (1st Jul 2021 - 22:27:38)

Hi,
It is not discriminatory to allow certain age groups to a licensed premises. If a decision is made to make a pub safer, and welcome to older ages it is their prerogative.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Don (2nd Jul 2021 - 09:33:42)

@Dcbcooper - just a heads up, you're wrong! All public houses are able to pick and choose who they allow in.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Gill (2nd Jul 2021 - 12:44:04)

Not entirely correct. If they are refusing entry to specific individuals for a reason then that’s allowed. To apply a protected characteristic reason to refuse entry to a generic group (gender, sexual orientation, age, race etc) is illegal.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Don (2nd Jul 2021 - 14:09:33)

Gill, until I retired I was a publican, I can assure you age limits were completely at the discretion of the licensee, and no reason needed to be given

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- N (2nd Jul 2021 - 14:20:11)

Incorrect.

If this was the case then club 18-30 holidays would be illegal! Plenty of pubs and clubs that have a 25 policy!! And it is not illegal.

Next time half price fish & chip Friday's is on for OAPs I'll argue the toss then!

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Al (2nd Jul 2021 - 17:13:22)

Not just young people that fight, I've seen old people over 50 fighting in pubs

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- MT (2nd Jul 2021 - 19:24:32)

Don when did you retire, this legislation is relatively recent.

N. Age specific holidays and age related discounts are explicitly listed in the exceptions in the legislation so are allowable.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- N (2nd Jul 2021 - 20:32:13)

There is already permitted age related law practices in the premises such as a pub so this also exempts them. If you actually read the equality act.
Again, under the terms of their licence the landlord/lady can legally implement over 25s only .
Plenty of clubs and pubs already do !!

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- N (2nd Jul 2021 - 21:01:10)

If the landlord refuses to serve anyone over 25 then that would be age discrimination in a case like this.

He can quite legally under the terms of his licence implement an over 21 or over 25s policy. That is not age discrimination.

Re: Age restrictions @ the Green Dragon
- Mandy (3rd Jul 2021 - 13:20:30)

The dragon has always had a reputation for fighting. The landlord at the time, always barred them. I don't see why all under 25s should be tarred with the same brush, that's okay though, there are other pubs in liphook that will be welcoming us. The pub struggles as it is, so good luck with that.
