LLOYDS BANK PLC HASLEMERE
- RM (23rd Jun 2021  13:21:22)

I have just read that this branch of the bank is among 44 in England and Wales that are set to close between September and November due to' lack of footfall'.

We must continue to use our branch in Liphook in person otherwise it will disappear in the same way. Unfortunately the cashless society is ever growing which does not bode well for those who depend on the branch network.

The sort code for the Haslemere and Liphook branches of Lloyds Bank are identical. Hopefully we will get some clarification as to what is going on as, like Grayshott was, Liphook appears to be a sub-branch of Haslemere.

That's a shame as I know some vulnerable customer rely on branches.

I opened an account with Loyds (online) when I moved to Liphook 3 years ago so i'd be able to have a branch on my doorstep.

The truth is, I've never had to visit (any) branch in that time. I can't actually remember when I last visited a branch.

I do wonder why anyone would need to visit a branch? What can be done in a branch that can't be done online?

And, here's a question: why should legacy banks be lumbered with the huge cost of maintaining branch networks when fintechs can, by nature of their app-based channel, pick and choose the customers who are cheaper to serve?

Competition in banking is wide open - but the old banks get lumbered with the majority of the cost of serving people who either can't or refuse to use digital banking. No wonder they're slimming down the number of branches they have.

Justin, some people don’t have the facilities to do on line banking, especially the elderly, so having a branch Is very useful for them.

Often people from Haslemere use liphook as easier parking and access to bank

If cash wasnt used why has the bank of england just printed 100 1000's £50

Yes internet bank is handy but having money in your pocket is nice

Long live cash

Perhaps the banks could offer subsidised tech and online connectivity to older vulnerable customers when they close the last bank in an area

Liphook branch is not listed for closure on the BBC news article so hopefully it’ll stay. Haslemere however is. It will be a case if use it or lose it I fear.

The ploy is simple and not at all original.
We (bankers) take away the in-person branch disguised as a COVID precaution and a "saving", we withdraw paper postal free service disguised as eco-friendly. We arrange with our cartel other banks to join us in the scheme.
We fire staff and sell brick & mortar property, savings and profits to boss's pockets.
Then we start charging for phoning-in, printed old statements, cash transactions, in-person appointments, online consultations, etc. Pocket the profits.
We then tell you that our fault-free online services are 'Unfortunately down just now at this moment' (blame the Russians), and let you worry about it, just enough that in your frustration you won't be thinking twice when we later come round to your rescue, once convenient for us (usually during low paid international staffing hours) and once your additional fees payments are cleared...
We see it all over the place.
A few decades down the line once banking cartels tire, we get a brilliant genius who thinks up of a pop-up walk-in service on what is left of the high-street.

"Lack of footfall"? Not surprising, I used to go in there two or three times a week. Then they changed their closing time from 17.00hrs to 16.30hrs. No good to me as that was the time I knocked off for the day.

I'm pretty sure that Lloyds had previously stated that they would never close a branch that was the last bank in a town or village. It is a tricky topic as banks are a business operating in a free market economy BUT there is also a case for community need and there are still members of our society that are dependent on local facilities. High Street closures are rife but it does seem some are being cut adrift. Lots of social challenges ahead thanks to the internet.

We still need some bank branches I prefer even in this pandemic to use cash and do. I also save up all my loose change and change it in the bank can't do that on line. Also if we did lose the branch in liphook we also lose the cashpoint that will leave just one at Sainsbury's which has on occasion been broken.

Lloyds Bank closed their branches at Bordon, Grayshott and now Haslemere, in all cases these villages do not have a bank at all.

If we lose the cashpoint in Lloyds Liphook we will still have two at Sainsburys and the Co-op.

The branch review doc for Haslemere still stated availability of Liphook branch

Will have to see if 2nd round changes that

Love this on the Lloyds guidance notes

"There are hourly trains between Haslemere and Liphook with a journey time of around 30 minutes"

Lloyds have informed me of the closure of the Haslemere branch but it is quite clear Liphook and Petersfield will remain open.

We received letters today confirming that Liphook and Petersfield are now our closest branches,
As a small business we do still have some customers who prefer to pay by cheque rather than BACs so regularly use the Liphook branch.
Even in there though we are often asked if we would like to use the online mobile facility for paying cheques in.
I always reply that I like to speak to an actual person

I like to go into the bank and conduct my business in person.
It is so nice to talk to a human being and see a smiling face, asking you how you are .
People need people!

I held my bank account at Haslemere. I received a letter last week saying that my account would be now held at Petersfield, despite Liphook being my nearest bank now I love in Liphook. I really hope that isn't a hidden sign that Liphook will be closing too....
