Liphook seen from Kazakhstan
- Simon C (28th Jul 2011 - 06:11:42)
Dear Friends, Neighbours and Enemies,
Alerted to recent social events, I have just spent an enlightened few moments marvelling at the hysteria online which may equal that of the night.
A lady asked what foreigners might think. So I showed my Kazakh colleagues here in the office. 5 out of 7 speak and read English to varying degrees, and have other languages like Italian, German and of course Russian. Shocked by the appalling English, the lack of manners, discourtesy and respect shown in the threads, they were however not surprised that such behaviour may happen at a party. Yes, they said we get drunk too; ....and do they.
Had I been at home and living close to the venue I may have gone for a shufti myself. It may be that my younger son was present, I have yet to discover.
It is a shame that it descended so badly into a rough house, but it happens. I am delighted that our children should be able to get together socially in that way, if that is what they do. If they will do so again, then someone needs to have the courtesy to discuss with the neighbours and make arrangements for safety and security. I would gladly help if I can, but when I get home, not from here in the Wild East.
Mr or Mrs Ryan put things well already.
Least said soonest mended.
Sunny Kazakh regards to one and all,
Simon

Mr Ryan seemed to think there was nothing to complain about. All that many of us wanted was courtesy, safety and security, not shambles. Simples.

Mrs Ryan.
How were we to know? Simon referred to Mr or Mrs Ryan - so no clues there either!

Simon was right in his referring me as Mr, or Mrs. No jumping to conclusions. ! Strange that people would assume that I was a man first.

When I went to school the convention was Mr then Mrs and then Miss. Now we also have Ms. Not that mant seem to care for it. I meant no discourtesy and I hope none was taken. Indeed Liz courtesy does extend both ways.
I think the only thing that is proven is, that if care is not taken in written expression like posts or emails, recipients may jump easily to erroneous conclusions about meaning. Care and thought is a recipients responsibility too. It works both ways I suppose.
Thank you for your responses.
More sunny and sauna ish greetings from Kazakhstan
Simon

Making an incorrect best guess when you have not been given the full information is not discourteous. Next time I could try "My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen" I suppose!

The point being, jumping to conclusions on assuming I was a man, women not intelligent enough to discuss issues ?
