Carnival 2021
- Carnival Fan (20th Jun 2021 - 03:10:32)

Is the carnival going on this year, i can't see a reason to cancel it again we all need some cheering up and it is an outdoor event.
Of course the ultra paranoid can wear the silly masks if they like.
By the way i work in London and Notting Hill Carnival is going ahead( not as good as Liphook of course).

You're wrong about that. The Notting Hill Carnival has been cancelled and will not go ahead once again this year, other than a virtual event online.

The Notting Hill carnival has been cancelled this year because of the Covid 19 pandemic.

carnival fan, you are giving out the wrong information, the decision was made recently not to go ahead with the Notting Hill Festival.

The reason given for cancelling the physical Notting Hill Carnival was that it takes a long time to prepare and the participants need certainty or the losses would be huge if after all that preparation it had to be cancelled at the last minute. 12,000 police for a start, I think private events have to pay for much of their own policing (I know football matches do).

On a smaller scale, I should imagine this is a similar reason for cancelling our carnival and many other events, it is a big shame as I remember it was under some kind of doubt in the past, I hope after this year people take it to their heart and we can make next year's really special.

My apologies re the Notting Hill Crime Festival(Sorry carnival).

You are all right it has been cancelled and is being replaced with lots of illegal pop up music events, which is why all police leave has been cancelled.

However, with regards to the Liphook event i can see no good, rational or following the evidence reason to cancel.

Ah well the fear mongers have won again.

Carnival Fan - I assumed it was cancelled because the many fundraising events that happen in the months prior to each Carnival have had to be cancelled. Did you really think there’s no cost involved and everyone just turns up in the night? The fireworks alone obviously cost a fortune!

Carnival Fan, this is rather a pointless post when you could have just clicked on the "carnival" link on this website and it will give you the information you are seeking.

But if you did that you wouldn't have been able to make sarcastic comments such as "paranoid ultra cautious", "silly masks", "Notting Hill Crime Festival" and "fear mongers".
